Eat, Sleep, Move Week

October 25-31, 2020

2020 has not been an easy year, and the transition to winter brings with it additional challenges to our well-being. The goal of Eat, Sleep, Move Week is to remind us of the importance of these simple but vital self-care fundamentals: eating well, sleeping well, and moving our bodies.

Visit the Eat, Sleep, Move Week website for the full calendar of virtual and in-person events, contests, and giveaways.

Take the 2020 National College Health Assessment

This survey, administered every two years, provides the unique opportunity to learn about undergraduate and graduate students’ experiences with mental health, physical health, substance use, interpersonal violence, belonging, and the impact of these wellness issues on academic performance. The results will help Brandeis identify student health needs, inform the direction of health and wellness services and programs, and track trends over time.

The NCHA survey is administered via the American College Health Association (ACHA). Visit the ACHA-NCHA website to learn more about this study

12 p.m.
Location: OnlineSponsor(s): Rosenberg Institute of Global Finance, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, The Baupost Group

The asset management industry has long recognized the value that can be created by having a diversity of opinions around the table, however, the industry has lagged in the representation of diverse personnel. Why has this disconnect persisted? What hidden biases have innovative asset managers had to overcome to identify and attract a more diverse workforce? We will speak with a few leading organizations that have already taken several steps to address this issue and what work they still have to do. We will also discuss what these organizations are doing to create opportunities for diverse employees and diverse-owned firms beyond their own organizations.

Location: OnlineSponsor(s): Brandeis University Writing Center and Brandeis Library

Starting a literature review can seem daunting. How many sources do you need? This workshop is co-taught by the Brandeis Library and Writing Center.

Weekly Study Circle with Muslim Chaplain Harun Spevack
8:00 – 9:00 pm
Our Thursday night study circles will follow the narrative of the Autobiography of Malcolm X while delving into the many issues the story brings up via an Islamic lens. For many in the American Muslim community, and globally, Malcolm X's story represents a spiritual journey from zulumat ila nur (from a multitude of overspreading darknesses to the singular light of Truth). It is a story of change, healing, and a gradual unveiling of a beautiful vision of social and spiritual unity. Topics discussed will include those connected to Islamic ethical character, ritual, and theology, as well as the problems of racism, classism, and political oppression. In particular, we will be exploring some of the more complex and unique problems of racism and classism in Muslim societies that so starkly contrast with the vision of unity that Malcolm X's Hajj narrative promote. In doing so, we will be exploring Qur'anic solutions to these problems with an aim to
improve our own contributions to our diverse communities. All are welcome to this virtual study circle. Contact Chaplain Spevack with any questions.
