You no longer need to make an appointment to
pick up your holds curbside! Simply walk up to the curbside doors (northeast lobby doors, next to the parking lot) and call us.
As a reminder, only things that are on the holdshelf for you can be picked up curbside. If you want something that is on our shelves: place a hold on it using CountyCat and once you receive notice that it is ready, come on over and get it!

CATERPILLARS AND BUTTERFLIES AT THE LIBRARY
Summer is here, and the Monarch butterflies have arrived! Stop by the library to watch our hungry caterpillars eat leaves of milkweed, reflect on the wonder of chrysalises, and, if you're lucky, help Ms. Heide release a butterfly into the the Village Courtyard Gardens, an official Monarch Waystation. How many butterflies will we raise this year?

WHERE'S LEO?

Black Lives Matter.
I’ve struggled to focus on anything else over the last five weeks. Sometimes I feel knowledgeable and hopeful, and at other times I’ve struggled to articulate myself, and I feel overwhelmed. Unlearning racism personally and systemically is demanding and necessary work.
The Shorewood Public Library is committed to doing the work of unlearning racism, and you’ll see that in overt and subtle ways. We will continue to select materials with strong and joyful characters of color, and titles that help explore dismantling racism. We will continue to have programs that explore issues of social injustice and incorporate inclusive values. We will continue to look inward and provide learning opportunities related to unconscious biases and racial equity for staff and library trustees. We will start to regularly use tools that apply an equity lens to our existing policies and operational practices. And we’ll create space for difficult conversations that will come up as we do this essential and challenging work.
Join us,
Rachel Collins

Ms. Heide has been keeping little ones entertained at home for a couple months now with Facebook story times - and she's keeping it going! Here's what's on:
On
July 7th &
21st,
Rhyme Time Tuesday comes to you via Facebook starting at 9:00 AM. You can enjoy the rhymes and songs for a week after Ms. Heide posts her video.

If you have already played all the games, built all the puzzles, and done all the laundry then it's time for some fun new projects. We've got some ideas:
Every
Thursday in July, teens can pick up a
Make & Take kit to get creative at home - from putting pen to paper to making old school friendship bracelets.
On
July 6th and
27th, explorers in 3rd grade and up can pick up a
Tinker Lab To Go kit for at-home experimentation.
|
|
It's important to connect face-to-face in the same place. Let's do that this summer - as long as you're healthy and willing to wear a mask and/or stay distanced! Join us for these family-friendly programs:
Summer Story Time is on
Wednesdays at
10:00 AM beginning
July 8th, on the library lawn (weather permitting).
Registration is required.
Terrific Tuesdays on
July 14th, 21st, and
28th will allow for a limited in person audience (as well as being streamed on Facebook Live). Registration is required for each week.
On

WHAT WE'RE READING & WATCHING
|
|
Exploring the liminal period between childhood and adulthood, the spaces between the rural and the urban, the distance between a prayer rug and hard concrete,
Another Brooklyn
is poetry set in the seventies. Beautifully written, it makes hard realities as soft and dreamlike as a child's memories.

Explore the desolation of Detroit and the modern world in Jim Jarmusch's film,
Only Lovers Left Alive. Vampires Adam and Eve reunite to revel in music, literature, and idyll romance only to be disrupted by Eve's younger sister. Their love has stood the test of time, but can it stand the test of the 21st century?

INFORMATION YOU CAN TRUST
|
With so many sources for information, it can be hard to sort out fact from fiction and to determine who to trust.
It is more vital than ever to be certain that you are accessing and sharing the most factual and authoritative information you can.
The state of Wisconsin has created a one-stop resource for information on COVID-19. With links to relevant state agencies and updated news releases, you can easily stay on top of the facts.
