See what is happening at Grace Lutheran!
October 7, 2021
This is a quick weekly reminder of what is happening at Grace
in worship and in ways to connect and serve.
Pastor's Message
Blessed and Fed!

St. Francis of Assisi encourages us to see God in the world right in front of us. We don't need to look to the heavens, but instead can see God digging in the dirt, recognizing that God is as close to us as our own heart-beat.

This weekend, I felt God's Spirit in many ways. From breaking bread with the whole congregation, and welcoming 11 young people to the Lord's Table, to blessing both cats and dogs.

People of Grace, we do not need to look far to see God. God's image is reflected and present in each and everyone of you! I am so thankful that God is so close!

Thanks be to God!

Pastor Joanna Mitchell

Fun fact about Kristi – she loves to cook and loves TEACHING kids how to cook simple but delicious meals that they can make themselves now or as they emerge into adulthood. We are gathering to cook dinner and eat! Why? Because cooking, food and community are important. The Bible even tells us so. In years past this has been a favorite event for students. RSVP each month to Kristi at kristil@graceandover.org if you can join us.

Dakota Sacred Sites Tour
Saturday October 16, 2021
10:00am to 2:00pm

Meet at Church of St. Peter, 1405 Sibley Memorial Highway, St. Paul 55120

The tour begins in the church parking lot and then we can carpool as desired to 3 other sites: Fort Snelling State Park, the Dakota Internment Camp (after the U.S. – Dakota War) site and Pilot Knob Hill, a traditional burial ground.

Tour leader: Rev. Jim Bear Jacobs, Director of Community Engagement and Racial Justice for Minnesota Council of Churches, Founder of Healing Minnesota Stories (of which this tour is a part) and Parish Associate at Church of All Nations Presbyterian Church.

From the Healing Minnesota Stories website, of which this tour is a part: “The tours offer an opportunity to learn about Minnesota history from a Native perspective through story-telling and experiencing the sites in silence/meditation/reflection.”

There is no charge for the tour, but a donation of $45 to $75 is suggested. We (at Grace) are asking for $25 per person which we will collect as everyone arrives; the remainder will be covered by other funds. Of course, donations over the $25 are welcome, and none at all is required by the MNCC. Give what you are able as with all free-will donations. Please click on the link below to register.

For questions concerning the tour you can contact Leoma Sparer, Leoma55@msn.com or 612-310-2967.

As part of Healing Minnesota Stories’ effort to create dialogue, understanding and healing between Native and non-Native peoples, Minnesota Council of Churches offers Sacred Site Tours of the Twin Cities area. These tours aim to create greater awareness and understanding of the Dakota people, the original people of this area, who too often are invisible in their homeland. The tour includes information on Dakota history, culture and sacred sites, as well as the oppression and genocide they faced, and ultimately their exile.

Grace's Opportunities for Giving
Noisy Offerings

For the month of October, our Noisy Offerings will be split equally between Alexandra House and Haiti. The mission of Alexandra House is to empower victims of domestic and sexual violence, and inspire social change, through education, support, and advocacy. Haiti was shook by a 7.2 earthquake on August 14, 2021, and then, two days later on August 16, 2021, Tropical Depression Grace came ashore both events brought devastation to the Haitian people.
