Making Resolutions

by Father Casey

In my sermon last weekend, I preached about New Year’s resolutions. I am not typically one to make such commitments, but lately I’ve been feeling that I shouldn’t put off for later what I know I should be doing today. I’m feeling more than usual the “fierce urgency of now,” as Blessed Martin Luther King, Jr. says. I don’t want to wait to do the sorts of things that make me a better person, a better priest, and a better follower of Christ. So why not use the start of the year to make some changes?

As Episcopalians, we are the beneficiaries of some wonderfully helpful “resolution starters.” They are the five core promises we make in the Baptismal Covenant. I say they are “starters,” because on their own, they are a little too broad to be successful resolutions on their own. Social scientists say that effective resolutions include specifics. Faithful Departed

We mourn the death of longtime member and usher, Rolf Schneider, who died on January 2. A Requiem Eucharist will be held on February 4 at 1:00 pm in the Church.

Rest eternal grant to him, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon him.

May his soul, and the souls of all the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Stewardship Update

The 2023 Stewardship campaign is at 84% of its goal, with almost 400 households pledging $1.7M. It is never too late to make a pledge, but the Stewardship Committee encourages all members to do so prior to the January 24 Vestry meeting. Even responses that indicate a decrease in the amount you intend to pledge enable the Vestry to finalize the 2023 budget.

Please reach out to the Parish Administrator, Cathleen Dolt or 972-233-1898 x230) with any questions or if you need assistance with your pledge.
