Glenna Phelps- Aurich, Executive Director of Logan County Chamber of Commerce, (front row right) recently presented the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Week to Hospice of the Plains to Tiffany Storch, Administrator/Executive Director and (back row left to right) Tamra Futch, Terrie May, Julianne Kramer, Shirley Stephen, (front row left to right) Front Row: Tiffany Storch, Administrator/Executive Director receiving Business of the Week from Glenna Phelps- Aurich Executive Director of Logan County Chamber and (not pictured) Laura Bacon, Amber Schoen-berg, Kylee Harless, Cassie Diehl, Rosie Gibb, Rachel Wills, Mary Hughes and Dee Walker.
....Hospice of the Plains originated in Wray in 1996 after a group of volunteers noticed the lack of resources for end-of-life cares within their communities. Over the years, the need was realized not just in the Wray area and when an opportunity presented itself for the organization to reach more of the population in Northeastern Colorado, expansion led to the satellite office in Sterling opening for business.
....Hospice of the Plains remains an indispensable service to Northeastern Colorado. As healthcare evolves, some may say on a daily basis, so too does Hospice of the Plains. With these changes the underlying mission statement remains the same, providing compassionate physical, emotional, and spiritual care for the terminally ill, comfort for the grieving and education for the communities we serve.
....To quote the founder of the modern hospice movement, Dame Cicely Saunders, "You matter because you are you, and you matter to the end of your life. We will do all we can not only to help you die peacefully, but also live until you die". Employees, volunteers, and the Hospice of the Plains Board of Directors believe fully in hospice and living each and every moment to the fullest.
....Hospice offers the full extent of end-of-life services, also providing community support, education, and bereavement to our communities. These services are not limited to those who have had a loved one on Hospice of the Plains services, rather, a way to provide free community outreach and support, assisting those who need support in their grieving.
....Hospice of the Plains has many events coming up through the end of the year which includes Oktoberfest, National Hospice Month Soup Luncheon, Tree of Lights and Blue Christmas Virtual Remembrance Service.
....Hospice of The Plains is located at 100 Broadway, Suite 1A. They can be contacted at 970-526- 7901, 970- 332-4116, Email: info@hospiceoftheplains.org and Website: www.hospiceoftheplains.org. Please be sure to like and follow them on Facebook and check out their website for constant updates and how you can participate and support your local Hospice of the Plains organization.

Invest In Children
The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS) has partnered with Executives Partnering to Invest in Children (EPIC) to create a 5-month Design Lab which will help employers, or community partnerships that include employers, prepare and plan for the creation of an on-site or near-site child care program. Employers including for-profit, non-profit, and government entities are all welcome to participate. 2021 legislation (Senate Bill 236) created an $8.8 Million Employer-Based Child Care Facility Grant Program to provide support for these projects in Colorado. A explanatory webinar has passed but information is still available. ........ EPIC Lab .........................................Colorado EPIC

Halloween Marketing
Halloween may not seem like a golden opportunity for customers — it’s not often associated with major shopping seasons like Christmas or back-to-school. But, even with pandemic-related restrictions in place, the National Retail Foundation says the average American spent $92.12 on candy, costumes, and decorations in 2020 and $8.05 billion on the holiday.

In Trade Works. Tariffs Don't.
New tariffs on steel, aluminum, and Chinese imports, as well as the potential for additional tariffs on autos and auto parts, threaten to spark a global trade war. Simply put, tariffs are a tax on American consumers and businesses. Tariffs are the wrong approach to address unfair trade practices. . . ... . State By State

Savings on Unemployment Insurance
The Polis administration announced that three-quarters of Colorado small businesses will save money on unemployment insurance as a result of the Polis administration’s actions. “Providing savings to our small businesses and their teams is a top priority as we build back better from before the pandemic. As an entrepreneur and small businesses owner, I know first hand that any level of relief helps and I’m proud that our administration is leading on fiscal responsibility,” said Governor Jared Polis “With this responsible action, around three-quarters of Colorado employers save money and will not face additional surcharges to cover the cost of this interest." During the global pandemic, Colorado borrowed over $1 billion from the federal government (through a Title XII advance) in order to continue providing unemployment benefits to Coloradans who were impacted by the global pandemic through no fault of their own.

Colorado Increasing Minimum Wage In 2022
The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment’s (CDLE) Division of Labor Standards and Statistics (DLSS) announced the proposed new Colorado minimum wage, currently at $12.32 for 2021, will rise on January 1, 2022 to $12.56, or $9.54 for those receiving enough in tips for total pay to meet or exceed the full minimum wage. Annually inflation-adjusting the minimum wage is mandated by a section of the Colorado Constitution that Colorado voters adopted in a 2006 ballot measure (with the exception of 2017-20, when the minimum wage rose by larger amounts due to another ballot measure, in 2016, raising the minimum wage by 90-99 cents annually until it reached $12.00 by 2020).

Vaccines For More Than COVID Prevention
As students across Colorado head back to school, Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) asks parents and guardians to keep vaccine-preventable diseases out of Colorado classrooms and help ensure continued and safe in-person learning. While children 11-years-old and younger are not yet eligible for any of the COVID-19 vaccines, there are other vaccines that protect them from 16 other infectious diseases, including measles, whooping cough, mumps, and varicella (chickenpox). The state is experiencing decreases in vaccination coverage as identified through aggregate, de-identified data self-reported to CDPHE by schools and child care providers for the 2020-2021 school year. With the exception of hepatitis B, immunization rates for school-required vaccines fell among kindergartners -- with coverage for polio and varicella falling below 90%......... State Agencies
