January 8, 2021
Greetings families,
I hope this email finds you and your children well. It has been a delight to see our students back in session and working away to learn more about their historical figures! Please see below for several key announcements and updates going into next week.
Grades/Evaluations
The Parent Portal for reviewing your child’s grades and evaluations is now open. If you have any questions about grades please feel free to contact your child’s teacher.
Project Day
Next Wednesday, January 13, we will be celebrating project week with a culminating event! We want to preserve the unifying spirit of Project Week, while adhering safely to the protocols we have in place. In lieu of an in-person Project Night, we will be putting together a Historical Wax Museum and sharing this with families.
All students should come to school on Wednesday dressed as their historical figure. The guidelines surrounding dress-up can be found below:
Costumes may be simple and should reflect what the historical figure would wear or look like. Everyday objects and materials that families already have around are welcome and purchasing elaborate costumes is not required. Appropriate props are also welcome if they add to the representation of the historical figure. The same guidelines as Historical/Literary Figure Dress Up Day should be used:
- Your costume should cover at least the same areas as the Archway polo and shorts/skirts (just above the knee).
- Items in your costume should not have any logos on them.
- You may wear non-uniform shoes (such as sandals), provided that they are appropriate for your character.
- No masks, face paint, or hair dye are permitted.
-
Small props are allowed, but should be put away during class. No props that are weapons are permitted.
- Students who do not follow the guidelines may be sent home.
During the school day, we will ask one class at a time to come out to the field and a short video clip will be taking highlighting the class. We will put together a video to be shared with all of you! We hope that this event replicates to some degree the unifying experience of our previous years. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Administrative Change
As announced over the break, Dr. Clay Scott has taken on a position as the Headmaster of Archway Trivium West. We are, once again, both saddened to lose him here at home and thrilled at this opportunity for him. He has composed a letter he would like to be shared with the Athenian community. As always, please feel free to reach out to me with any questions you may have.
Please see his words below:
Dear Athenian Families,
Many years ago, while living in Virginia, I set a goal to build a classical charter school. I worked to develop a vision and build the needed political and financial capital, but ultimately failed. It was at that time that Headmaster Washburn invited me to help found Archway Trivium East. Although it is not “my school,” contributing to the establishment and development of this great academy has been a dream come true. It is everything I imagined and more.
I would like to thank each of you for the wonderful outpouring of support I have received in this transition. Please know that if I have served your families and, specifically, your children well, that service pales in light of the blessings I have received in rendering it. Although we are parting ways in a physical sense, we will continue our shared pursuit of truth, goodness, and beauty. In and through that pursuit, we will always remain united. Thank you for five and a half amazing years.
Heartily Devoted,
Clay Scott
With Devotion,
Stephen Philabaum
Headmaster
