Virtual Portuguese-American Art Gallery Launched During PALCUS National Conference
Online Gallery is a Collaboration Between, PALCUS, the Portugal-US Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Portugal, with the support of FLAD
The Portuguese-American Leadership Council of the United States (PALCUS), the Portugal-US Chamber of Commerce (PUSCC) and the Embassy of Portugal announce the launch of the Portuguese-American Art Gallery. The online gallery will display art and offer information about Portuguese-American artists, and eventually feature guests artists based in Portugal
The Gallery was launched during the PALCUS Virtual National Conference. The Conference also marks the beginning of a series of “Meet the Artist” virtual events. During these events, the artists are able to tell their story, talk about what inspires them and offer advice to aspiring Portuguese artists.
The Portuguese-American Art Gallery is the result of a collaborative partnership between PALCUS, The Embassy of Portugal in Washington, D.C. and the Portugal-US Chamber of Commerce (PUSCC) and is made possible with the support of the Luso-American Development Foundation (FLAD). The gallery can be found online at portugueseamericanartgallery.com. Access to the gallery is free.
“PALCUS is excited to partner with the PUSCC on another initiative that highlights the success of Portuguese-Americans,” said PALCUS Chairwoman Angela Simões. “It is our hope that this will further our mission of giving visibility to our community, as well as fostering their success through this platform. We thank FLAD for their support of this program.”
The gallery is live and was launched featuring 7 artists:
- Leonor Alvim Brazão
- Isabel Pavão
- Peter Pereira
- Elizabeth Casqueiro
- Michael De Brito
- Jeffrey Lloyd Dever
- Martim Meirelles
“The Embassy of Portugal in the US welcomes initiatives such as this,” said Sandra Pires, Cultural Attaché at the Embassy of Portugal. “The Portuguese Government, through the Embassy continues to promote talent within our communities abroad and this gallery is another way to feature the creativity that can be found in our own communities.”
Magda Vakil, Director for the Portugal-US Chamber of Commerce, agrees. “With current restrictions limiting the ability to have live art exhibits and shows, the arts community has suffered from lack of exposure,” said Vakil. “Everyone has had to learn to adapt and we are excited that this online gallery provides an opportunity for Portuguese American Artists to show their work collectively and can serve as an inspiration for young artists to pursue their passions.”
Those wishing to contact the artists featured in the gallery can do so directly from the website by clicking on their names.
