Tell Congress to Provide COVID-19 Relief and Help Communities Recover
As the coronavirus continues to impact the country, communities continue to feel the effects of this economic and health crisis. That’s why your voice is needed today.

Right now, Congress is negotiating another coronavirus relief package. Action is needed now to extend existing policies and expand programs that support individuals and families—like enhanced unemployment insurance, increased monthly SNAP benefits and additional Medicaid funding for states.

United Way is asking Congress to include support to help feed those facing food insecurity, connect those in financial distress with resources to make ends meet, increase charitable giving to nonprofits, and provide child care to parents that are getting back to work.

Our families and communities can’t wait.
Orleans Residents - Submit Comment on Public Wi-Fi
Broadband internet access is necessary for children to participate in virtual learning, adults to stay connected with work or search for a job, and for everyone to participate in the modern economy. Yet, an estimated 37% of Orleans Parish residents lack access to broadband.

To help close this digital divide, New Orleans City Councilmember Helena Morena, who chairs the Council's Utilities Committee, is introducing an order to devise a plan to bring free, public Wi-Fi access to all.
.
ACTION: The order will be voted on this Thursday at the Regular City Council Meeting. Show your support by submitting a public comment for Thursday's virtual meeting via this form. On question six, please select the second to last option, "Regular 55. MOTION – NO. M-20-243 – BY: COUNCILMEMBER MORENO."

Expanded internet access aligns with United Way of Southeast Louisiana's plan to eradicate poverty in the region by stabilizing ALICE households. These households struggle to afford even their most basic needs - housing, food, transportation, child care, health care, and necessary technology. Providing free, public WiFi access to all residents in Orleans Parish will create a stronger, more prosperous, and equitable city.
