Letter from the Director - Chris Somerville

Good day and many blessings from all the staff at Safe Harbor of Bucksnort. Through these changing times we have faired quite well and will not stop our primary focus: Reaching out to those at their lowest through the power of the highest.

My name is Chris Somerville, and I am the Director for the Bucksnort facility. I would like to state that Bucksnort is a marvelous facility. We are constantly on the move here; looking for new ways to improve and brighten up the property.

Each department head is focused on their tasks while wearing other hats assisting each other to better server these men. Tim Clark, our Reliable Coordinator, works tirelessly to vet our clients and place them in the best possible job. Deeply ingrained in the recovery community is Kevin Collins. He networks with courts, probation/parole officers, lifeliners, rehabilitation centers, and word of mouth to extend Safe Harbor's hand to men in need. James Barnard, our lead Program Coordinator, wears many hats and meets clients needs on a daily basis. Chaplin is George Vanzandbergen a friend, a counsellor, a pastor, and a shoulder to lean on. I have seen him build good raport with the clients. Those relationships he builds are priceless and are a good start for moving forward.

Here in Bucksnort we are striving to help each man with: Knowing God, Finding Freedom, discovering their Purpose and Making a Difference. Those core principles are a substantial foundation to build upon. To anyone reading this, if there is someone that you know needing our program, please feel free to call upon us.

Staff of the Quarter - James Barnard, Tim Clark, George Vanzandbergen, Kevin Collins

The four men standing in this photo are the super stars of Bucksnort and have each gone above and beyond for the men of Safe Harbor.

From right to left

Mr. Kevin Collins who has been with the ministry since August 8th and has been an invaluable asset to the program and to the lives of the men. His dedication and work ethic shows him to be a man of God . We look forward to seeing great things from him in the future.

Mr. Vanzandbergen has been with the ministry 10 years and from day one he has been a key staff member. His dedication to the recovery and God for these men shows in his classes and his ability to council the clients as they work through the program. He's had a "can do" attitude and continues to be a rock of consistency with which we can build and improve.

Mr. Tim Clark is often quiet and reserved but don't let that fool you, he has a heart for the Lord and a willingness to press on when others would give up. He started as a staff member on 8/21/2022 and has been a rising star here at Bucksnort ever since. There is no doubt with his work ethic and desire to consistently improve himself, he will go far within the Safe Harbor organization.

James Barnard is the newest Program Coordinator on the Safe Harbor team and has proved himself to be reliable, a dedicated team player. Mr. Barnard takes on any new challenge with a YES! He is determined and God minded; reading his bible and keeping the word of God at the forefront of his mind. He is a loving father and loves giving back and helping with client's needs. We hope to see many more years with James as a Christian Soldier fighting on the front lines.

Client of the Quarter - Matthew

"Before coming to Safe Harbor, my life was a wreck. I experienced homelessness, very hard and dark times while battling my addiction. I was ashamed of myself and to be honest, just lost.

Since I have been at Safe Harbor my entire outlook has changed. I have developed the skills and awareness to help me in my daily life. I have found Jesus and have a personal relationship with him. I was asked to become a driver and I gladly accepted the job.

I plan to remain at Safe Harbor upon my graduation , and will become a fulltime staff member. I realize being around people in recovery will help me maintain sobriety."
