Granville Stadium on its way

I recently visited Granville Park in Merrylands and am delighted to say that work is underway to give the Granville Stadium a much needed upgrade and new lease on life.

The new sports facility will include new grandstand seating, upgraded carpark, lighting and irrigation and a reconstruction of the rugby field.

This is an exciting step in what will be the heart of community sports in the area.
The field hasn't had a facelift in over 40 years, and will become a place for our community and sports enthusiasts to bring activity and passion for sports to life and give our Two Blues Rugby Union Club a new revitalised field to play on.

We are extremely proud to be building the best facilities for our local community and I would like to thank the NSW Government for their contribution to upgrading this Park. This project is jointly funded by the Greater Sports Facility Fund and Cumberland City Council.

Small Business Month

As part of NSW Small Business Month this October, Cumberland City Council will be celebrating our local businesses and the role they play in driving economic growth.

The devastating bushfires and the COVID-19 pandemic has made this an incredibly challenging year for many businesses. Despite these tough times, it's great to see businesses like Mr Peri Peri, coming to Merrylands.

Our Council is doing everything in its power to support local businesses in our community during these tough times and I want small business owners to know that they are not on their own.

Next month we will be hosting an online networking event and a series of webinars over the month and I encourage local businesses to take advantage of these resources and networking opportunities. They are a great way to increase their knowledge and be equipped with the resources to boost their financial position.

Over 4000 local kids get involved

Cumberland City Council's Healthy Kids initiative has reached 4000 children in Sydney's west, through a series of workshops and sporting clinics that support children's health and wellbeing.

It may surprise you that 80 percent of Australian school kids don't get enough exercise or eat enough fruit and vegetables. We want to turn those statistics around.

We are glad to support youth who want to adopt healthy lifestyles. Kids spend a lot of time at school so it's great that they can learn habits that will benefit them well into adulthood and help them lead healthy lives.

Council has run 60 workshops and clinics to support the initiative since it began, with 75 percent of students rating the program as 'excellent'.

Proposed opportunities to extend the program in the future are being drafted subject to relevant COVID-19 restrictions in place at schools.
Personal Mobile Alarms

Council has just restocked a number of Press for Help alarms to assist socially isolated seniors.

For eligible seniors, the alarms can be programmed with up to 5 contacts of your choice, so if you ever have a fall, become lost or are having any other personal emergency where you need help, you can press the SOS button.

The personal mobile alarms can help users feel safe and secure, both at home and in the community, and can be used without the need for internet connection, landline or mobile phone.

To find out if you, or someone you know is eligible and for more information visit Council's website.

Vinnies Community Sleepout

Be part of the first ever virtual NSW Vinnies Community Sleepout.
On Friday 23 October, many people across NSW will sleep out at home in their cars, backyards or couches and come together in an effort to help those in our local communities who are doing it tough.

Homelessness in Australia is changing with the high cost of living, stagnant wages and unsteady jobs in a pandemic can push anyone into crisis. Your support is vital in helping us provide essential care and programs to those in our community who need it the most.
