The Morning Star Weekly Newsletter Vol 5, Edition 20 1/12/2021
Dear Morning Star Families and Friends,
Happy New Year! Everyone at Morning Star School is excited to start 2021 with our students and families!

As you know, it is time to begin the registration process for the 2021-2022 school year. Registration packets will be going home Friday. It is extremely important that you return your registration paperwork by February 3rd. We will begin accepting new applicants on February 4th. We have a waiting list for grades 5-12. If your paperwork is not returned by February 3rd, we cannot guarantee enrollment for the 2021-2022 school year. PLEASE turn in your registration paperwork by February 3rd.

Students entering 7th grade or Junior High 2 must have their 7th grade shots before the first day of school. Please make sure the doctor indicates on your child's shot record that immunizations are complete for 7th grade.

We have a very limited amount of tuition assistance available. You may request a tuition assistance application from the front office. These should be returned with your registration paperwork.

I wish you a happy, blessed and healthy new year.

Warmly,
Elaine Shott, Principal

ON CAMPUS
Thank you to the Knights of Columbus from San Juan Del Rio Parish who arranged for Santa to travel from the North Pole before the holiday break to visit our students and staff! He also talked to some of the distance learning students virtually and remembered to check in with some of our furry friends.
The final component of our brand new outdoor fitness area was installed last week. A huge 13x29 school logo! A big thank you goes out to Safe 4 Play and Perfect Turf for their hard work and commitment to this amazing project! A ribbon cutting ceremony is planned for later in the year. Stay tuned!
PRIMARY NEWS
Students showed off their drawings of presents they received from Santa!
It's a new year and our Primary students were eager to get back to learning.
INTERMEDIATE NEWS
Mrs. Powell’s students learned to understand the importance of teamwork. They also learned about failure in science and engineering by building towers out of marshmallows and toothpicks. They learned that even weak materials can be made stronger with good design techniques, and that distribution of mass is an important consideration when building a tower. After the towers were built, they placed coins on top to see if the towers would support the weight of the coins. After the lesson the students got to eat the left- over marshmallows, which of course they loved!
HIGH SCHOOL NEWS
Mrs. Brock nominated Nicholas, a Junior at Morning Star High School, for "student of the week" on First Coast News and he won!

Ms. Brock told First Coast News that Nicholas was one of the hardest working students she has ever known.

Will, a High School freshman, put his building and teaching skills to good use by helping Ms. Brock’s son Dylan build a PC. Great job Will!
Bodies and minds were at work on the new outdoor fitness center as students tried the fitness equipment for the first time. After a great workout session they recorded their thoughts. See below...
