A Warm Welcome to Lucy Forster-Smith!
Enjoy Some Tasty Chili This Sunday
dayWarm Welcome to Lucy Forster-Smith!
New Senior Associate Pastor
The newest member of the Fourth Presbyterian Church staff joined us this week: Lucy Forster-Smith.

Lucy, who comes to us from Harvard University, was elected by the congregation in October to serve as our new Senior Associate Pastor for Leadership Development and Adult Education.

In that role, she is responsible for supervision and leadership for associate pastors; working with our lay leaders; and coordinating the work of the Nominating, LEAD, and Adult Education Committees.

We are delighted to have Lucy joining us in ministry. As you see her around church in the weeks ahead, please take a moment to say hello,  introduce yourself, and extend a warm Fourth Church welcome.

While Supporting Youth Mission Trips
Head to Borwell Dining Room after 11:00 worship this Sunday and warm up with some delicious chili!

Yes, it's once again time for our annual Chili Cook-off and the presentation of the Golden Ladle to the winner of this year's Best Fourth Church Chili.

There will be plentiful chili recipes for you to sample (along with sides, condiments, and drinks), all for a $15-per-person contribution to the 2018 Fourth Church Youth mission trips.

There will also be a to-go tasting option for those who can't stay.

And if this sparks an interest for you in the youth's upcoming trips to Cuba, Detroit, Missouri, and Montreat, we are looking for leaders to join us: you can learn more about the trips and apply online.

How might we constructively and effectively allocate resources to address these issues?

Hosted by St. Chrysostom's, the series will take place on Thursdays, January 25 to February 15 at 6:30 p.m. and include a box supper. Register online for $10 per session or $30 for all four.

worship Worship This Week
Baptism of Our Lord
Sunday, January 7

This Sunday we remember the baptism of our Lord, one of the texts traditionally read after Epiphany, when we continue our focus on the revelation of the divinity of Jesus.

As we hear again the voice of the Lord saying at Jesus' baptism "You are my Son the Beloved; with you I am well pleased," we also recall our own baptism, in which God has claimed and named us as God's own.

In grateful thanksgiving we will together reaffirm our baptismal vows and renew our commitment to live out our call as beloved children of God.
