Adjustments Made to Christian Service Hours This Year
|
The amount of Christian service hours our students are required to complete has been adjusted this year as we take into account the global health crisis and the safety of our Serra community.
All students must complete at least 10 hours of Christian service, although none of them need to be FIAT hours. In order to protect our students and the communities we serve, we will not require direct service with a marginalized population. Campus Ministry will work to provide virtual opportunities of service.
Service hour requirements by class year are:
Freshmen: Commit to a minimum of five non-FIAT hours plus the Freshmen Day of Service
Sophomores: Commit to a minimum of 10 non-FIAT hours
Juniors: Commit to a minimum of five non-FIAT hours plus the Junior Urban Plunge
Seniors: Commit to a minimum of 10 non-FIAT hours

Student-Athletes On Campus for Conditioning Beginning Monday
Our student-athletes will return to campus for conditioning beginning Monday, Sept. 8. Sessions will be run after school cohorts will be broken up by sport.
Strict protocols mandate that athletes wear a mask on campus, have temperature checks prior to attending practices, and have all athletic clearance documentation on file.
A detailed email will be sent home to parents on Thursday, Sept. 3, highlighting the safety measures athletes and coaches must adhere to. The email will include a one-page fact sheet regarding the mobile application that we will be using to check-in athletes and how to use it. Following tomorrow's e-mail, all communication sent home to parents regarding training and athletics will also be posted on our athletics website for quick reference.
All conditioning sessions will be conducted following County of San Mateo and California Department of Public Health guidelines.

Spring Awards Night to take place Virtually on September 24
We will host our spring awards ceremony on September 24. The event, which celebrates the academic achievements of students in the current sophomore, junior and senior classes, was canceled last May.
We anticipate that this event will be conducted virtually, very similarly to the Senior Awards Night for last year’s seniors which was so well received in May.
We look forward to celebrating all of the recipients for their tremendous work! More information will be sent to parents and students as the date nears.

October Teach-In for Justice
The Ignatian Family Teach-In for Justice is an annual gathering for members of the Ignatian family (Jesuit institutions and larger church) to come together in the context of social justice and solidarity to learn, reflect, pray, network, and advocate together. It is a place where people are empowered, re-energized, inspired, challenged, and supported by a community that sees faith and justice integrally linked.
Join the Serra contingency of students and faculty and engage in deep, focused discussion on Migration, Ecological and Racial Justice on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24-25. Take action on Monday, Oct. 26 as you practice advocacy with your local representatives. Registration is $50 for the entire week of access and learning. This fulfills the Christian Service requirement.
Please contact Mary Dowden, Campus Ministry Service Immersion Coordinator for more information or register using the button below.

Serra Mothers' and Fathers' Clubs Registrants are Climbing!
If you haven't already signed up for the Mothers' or Fathers' clubs at Serra, there is still time!
As of today, we have 266 mothers and 240 fathers who have officially signed up to participate in the parents' clubs. Parents are a vital part of the Padre community. In this virtual climate, joining one of our parents' clubs is a way to stay connected, meet new people and learn more about ways to get involved with Serra.
Another huge perk is that all registered members will receive a Serra item of clothing. Choose from a hoodie sweatshirt, a polo, a T-shirt or a vest! Get into the Padre spirit! All are welcome!
Freshmen mothers planning to attend the Sept. 9 freshmen mothers' meeting are being asked to send in questions to be answered on the Zoom call.

Serra's 2019-2020 El Padre Yearbook to be Published and Delivered Soon
|
|
As many of you are probably aware, the shelter in place order in Spring 2020 affected our timeline for publishing and distributing the 2019-2020 El Padre Serra Yearbook. Not only was the yearbook team unable to complete their yearbook submission to the publisher, but many of the traditional spring semester events did not take place and thus could not be submitted. On top of that, the publisher was forced to shut down. Over the summer months, our yearbook moderator Mr. Lawrence Long worked to complete last year’s yearbook and submit it to our publisher where production has resumed. As soon as we have an expected delivery date and protocol for delivering the yearbooks we will notify parents through Spotlight. Last year’s graduates will be informed as well.
