Dear River Forest residents,

As we head into 2023, the Village Board will continue to make every policy decision with three goals in mind; to provide a safe community, protect property values through a high level of customer service and to stabilize property taxes through fiscal responsibility. 

The Village will also continue to prioritize transparent communication of information and Board action to our residents and businesses. We often use social media or newsletters to accomplish this goal. If you know someone in the neighborhood that does not receive our newsletter, you can click here and send them this link. You can also follow us on one of our three social media channels, which include Facebook, Instagram and NextDoor. 

Also, the Village has lifted the overnight parking ban through Monday, January 2, 2023 at

9 a.m. for your visiting family and friends during the holiday season.

Holiday Light Recycling

The Village of River Forest continues to partner with Elgin Recycling Inc. to provide an easy and environmentally responsible way to dispose of old or unusable holiday lights. Residents can drop off holiday lights for recycling in a clearly marked receptacle behind Village Hall under the train overpass. This bin is available now through Sunday, January 15, 2023.

ACCEPTED ITEMS: Wire string holiday lights and extension cords, mini-lights (also known as Italian lights), C7 lights, C9 lights, rope lights, LED lights, etc. All colors and lengths will be accepted.

NOT ACCEPTED: Live trees, artificial trees, live greens, wreaths, garland, ornaments, figurines, inflatables, lawn ornaments or other holiday decorations.

Elgin Recycling takes the lights and cords, and the strands are separated, baled and sent to be chopped or shredded and sold as a commodity to foundries and mills across the country. Help us to have a sustainable holiday season!

ComEd Tree Trimming

Trees and branches that are not maintained can create safety hazards and cause power outages. Since preventative tree maintenance helps to prevent these hazards, ComEd will be working to trim trees in certain areas of the Village throughout the month of January. To view the areas of the community that will be impacted, click here. Residents who live in the areas where trimming takes place will be notified by postcard or door hanger - no less than 48 hours in advance of the work. Compost Your Holiday Greens

Holiday greens such as live Christmas trees, wreaths and garland will be collected on Wednesday, January 4, 2023 and the following Tuesdays: January 10, 17, 24, and 31. The holiday greens must be placed curbside prior to 7 a.m. on the listed days. Please remove all lights, tinsel, ornaments, metal hangers, plastic material and stands prior to curb placement for pick-up, as these materials will prevent the item from being properly composted. Please note - this collection does not include any other leaves or yard waste items.

Pete's Automotive Services is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, to assist with all of your car maintenance needs. Pete's offers oil changes, battery services, new brakes, engine repairs and more.
