Pathways To Peace in Africa

Through the development of trusted relationships Pathways To Peace has two initiatives in Africa that are responding to immediate and long-term peacebuilding needs. This is also significant as we bring our attention to assisting the original birthplace of humanity, which is Africa.

Republic of Guinea Peace Education Program

The War Against Poverty Community Development Project is focused on an orphanage and school in Kinda in the Kindia Region. The dedicated director and staff care for and educate the children as well as the surrounding community.

The mission of the War Against Poverty is to create a community where people can discover their talents and values to contribute to society. We also build bridges of hope for those who feel left out or abandoned by society. Contributing to humanity through skills giving, community empowerment, and serving as a role model for positive transformation.

Thank you to donors who contributed funds so that Pathways To Peace can provide a Peace Education Program to train the teachers and staff first, and then the children and community members. The program will include personal peace and values, peace leadership, effective non-violent communication, conflict resolution and management, and gender-based violence.

Western Uganda Calls for Help!

On December 17, 2022, Pathways To Peace sent out the following message via this newsletter, initiating a quick fundraising campaign to get food to families and children who had to flee their homes in response to rebel attacks in Uganda communities.

"Residents of Ntoroko district in Western Uganda were attacked by ADF (Allied Democratic Force) rebels from Congo with people brutally killed and maimed during the week of 12 December. This forced hundreds of women, children, and men to flee for their lives into hiding and long distances seeking secure locations but without food and water."

Guided by Gerald Nasasira, Executive Director, Ruralcare Empowerment International Uganda, and assisted by physician colleague Dr. Gilbert Beingana, on December 23, 2022, PTP sent $1230 to them to organize the distribution of food to the families and children in need. A special thank you to those of you who contributed - you made a difference!

On Monday, December 26, 2022, we received the following email message and photos from Gerald Nasasira and Dr. Gilbert Beingana in Uganda.

"Greetings to you all from Uganda. I’m writing to let you know that we were able to give food relief with the funds you sent. It has been a blessing to see us bring smiles to those who received the food. I have attached some of the pictures.

We reached 100 people in one village, with each individual being given a 5 kg bag that contains 2kgs of powdered rice, 2kgs of powdered milk and 1kg of soya, a mix that is rich in nutrition. Those with children to take care of were given priority in receiving this aid. Because we wanted to buy more food and reduce on costs, we reduced our team going for this relief and used our local contacts in the area. Gerald gave some candy to children.

The smiles in faces of those who received the food were so precious!! There is so much need as a recent attack has left many other individuals and families displaced and in desperate need. We continue to pray that God will open a door for us to reach and feed many people in this crisis. I bring sincere gratitude from the people who received food and they hope to meet you one day. They send you blessings and love across many miles to pathways to peace. They thank you for thinking about them and for demonstrating the love of Christ through kindness. Finally it is their great desire and hope to live in peaceful communities once again. Many people are feeling the pain of separating from their families and loved ones. We certainly share their pain and we hope that our partnership will do all that is possible to increase the level of peace in these villages and among these people. Again, thank you very much for standing with our people in this time of great need. God bless you."

If you would like to contribute to either of these efforts, you can donate online below and designate either Peace Education in Ginea or Uganda Food Relief. All donations go directly to support these programs.

About Pathways To Peace

Pathways To Peace expands the understanding and expression of Peace, fosters Peacebuilders and Peacebuilding activities, and builds an integral movement for a Culture of Peace.

Pathways To Peace (PTP) is an international Peacebuilding, educational, and consulting organization. For over four decades, PTP has been actively making Peace a lived reality. PTP is an UN-designated Peace Messenger Organization and has Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). PTP works locally and globally, inter-generationally and multi-culturally, to support Peacebuilding, Peacebuilders, and to collaborate with other organizations in initiatives that advance the Culture of Peace Initiative (CPI).

Since its inception in 1981, PTP has worked with the UN to expand awareness of and engage in the International Day of Peace (Peace Day), which is held annually on September 21st. Peace Day has grown from a single event of a few hundred people into a global movement that reaches hundreds of millions of people. Peace Day, as established by a unanimous United Nations resolution in 1981, provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace. http://internationaldayofpeace.org

With participants from around the world, the Culture of Peace Initiative (CPI) is a cooperative local-global Peacebuilding Initiative, uniting the strengths of organizations, networks, projects, and people to realize a Culture of Peace for the Common Good. The CPI also serves as a vehicle for bringing to light many previously unseen and unheard Peacebuilders working along diverse paths, who are embodying the emerging Culture of Peace within Humanity. The annual highlight of the Culture of Peace Initiative is the International Day of Peace, which provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations, and nations to work together, on a shared date, to create practical acts of Peace with a year-round impact.

"Peace is both an innate state of being and a dynamic, transformative, and evolutionary process."

This is how PTP defines Peace. Peace begins within, and as we discover inner Peace, we radiate Peace and engage in a Peaceful way of life. At PTP, we see this happening around our world, as seen in the spread of the International Day of Peace and the growing  Culture of Peace Initiative. We are moving beyond separation and recognizing our common humanity. We are acting to end violence and to embody the Peace our humanity cries out for and demands. We are envisioning and creating a world at Peace.
