“The Ukraine was Russia’s largest previous nuclear export market. Holtec had the contract to store the fuel at Chernobyl denying a market for Russian reprocessing. Westinghouse had the fuel market for 6 of 15 current reactors and could potentially supply them all. Westinghouse had a contract to supply 1 AP1000 at an existing Ukrainian unit with an option for a total of 5 - with strong support from the US Government. The Ukrainian Government has plans to double their nuclear supply by 2040, none of which they intended to give to Russia with 10’s of billions at stake or more.”
