MONDAY MEMO
Kindergartener Olin practiced swimming on his front with SJA Pool Director Miss Sandy, Sean, and Jamie, while his classmates looked on and waited their turns.
Greetings!

Wow, what a strong and vibrant community we have! Beyond all that's happening here at Riverside, read to the end for opportunities to join in yoga, maple sugaring, film making, spring youth sports, or animation festivities through our friends and organizations around our part of the NEK.

Happy Monday,
Nelia
NOTES
MASKING GUIDELINE UPDATE
As of today, masking is optional at Riverside, so long as local rates do not spike, with a couple of exceptions. As explained last week, there are a few classroom settings in which we expect masking for a little while longer due to health concerns of teachers, students, or family members. To protect people’s health privacy, we won’t disclose the specific reason for those decisions. Students should still keep a mask in their backpacks for these specific situations.

Our other COVID protocols will remain unchanged at this time.
IMPORTANT INCOME SURVEY
Please help us determine if we are eligible for the ARP EANS grant by filling out this survey. If we qualify, the ARP EANS grant would allow us to offset many of the COVID-related expenses we incurred this year and would allow us to add additional learning supports for students and additional professional development for teachers next year to address COVID learning loss.
GSA
The Riverside GSA (Gender and Sexuality Alliance) is a student-led, teacher-advised group established to support and celebrate Riverside’s LGBTQIA+ community. Weekly meetings are planned and run by students and consist of discussions, games, and social time. The group is open to all interested middle schoolers; allies are always welcome!
SWIMMING
K-2nd graders will have swimming again this Friday, March 18, as well as April 1, 8, 29, and May 6. (Skipped weeks are because of the middle school play, the half day in April, and spring vacation). Just like with skiing, learning to swim is not the only reason we go. For these students, practicing taking care of their belongings, keeping track of time, and managing their behavior in the locker room is a growth area. Please help them to be a part of preparing to go.

Please remember to pick up students behind the Field House at St. Johnsbury Academy at 3:15. Any fathers who can arrive closer to 3:00 and lend a hand in the boys' locker room would be most welcome!
FRIDAY OUTSIDE
On Friday, PK-8th graders should be ready for some extra outdoor activities and bring appropriate clothing to be outside. More details to come!
6-8 DANCE FRIDAY
6-8th graders are invited to a dance hosted by Student Council this Friday night, from 7:00-9:15 in the barn. If any parents can donate snacks, drinks, or help chaperone, please email Peter.

This class will be co-taught by Madeleine and Ian Balcom, who bring combined experience and training in breath work and yoga asana. Email Madeleine for payment and registration information.
SAVE YOUR EGG SHELLS PLEASE!
Carmenza and parent Claudia Lechuage (3rd grader Eula) are planning a fun arts session making ‘cascarones’ - confetti-filled eggshells traditional to Mexico for celebrating holidays – and need your help in collecting eggshells.  We’d love as many eggshells that you can save, with just the top ¼ cracked off. Reach out to Claudia if you have any questions or bring them to Carmenza at school.
NVU & CATAMOUNT ARTS ANIMATION FESTIVAL
The Vermont Animation Festival is proud to celebrate our seventh year as the only Animation Festival in Vermont! More info is on their website here.
KESD SPRING ATHLETICS
Riverside 3-8th grade students are welcome to join seasonal athletic programs at the Kingdom East School District. Descriptions of baseball/softball, track and field, and kickball can be found on the Kingdom East Athletics page of the district website. You can access the sign up/survey of program interest here, or on the website as well.

CATAMOUNT ARTS & SOCAPA FILM SLAM
Catamount Arts and The School of Creative and Performing Arts (SOCAPA) invite all area students and families to TAP INTO FILM, a 72-Hour Family Film Slam, May 5-8. After two years online, the much-anticipated-annual video arts competition is going hybrid with both in-person and online components! No matter their experience level, participants can compete for prizes.

Between a kick off party and an awards watch party, the weekend's main event is a team competition where groups of 3-5 filmmakers write, direct, edit, and premiere a short film in just two days. A winner will be selected from each category, by industry professionals, for a cash prize. All scripting, shooting and editing must take place within the 72 hours, so teams must have spontaneity, time management skills, and lots of ingenuity! Although the event is competitive, the environment is welcoming, supportive, and most importantly, fun!

Registration is free, although donations to support Catamount Arts are encouraged. Register your team now here.
