HOLY EUCHARIST ON SITE -- BEGINS OCTOBER 5
We will begin offering a simple service of Holy Eucharist in the Muriel Moore Chapel on Mondays at 5:30 pm (please note the time change from the original announcement). The first of these weekly services will be held on Monday, October 5. Masks and distancing will be required, the bathrooms in the building will be closed, and participants will need to give their names and phone numbers for contact tracing.

While all are welcome and we will take as many sanitary precautions as possible, please consider your health and risk tolerance before attending. For those who are not yet comfortable traveling to Holy Apostles or spending time in the space, we have many online opportunities to worship with our community!
"EPISCOPAL CHARITIES SUNDAY" -- THERE'S STILL TIME TO DONATE
Last Sunday, our parish will joined with others around the diocese to support Episcopal Charities Sunday, on behalf of feeding programs funded by Episcopal Charities. Now,more than ever, these programs (including our own Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen) need our support. Throughout the diocese, unemployment – and underemployment – have dramatically increased the number of people struggling with food insecurity. Even without the added pressure of the COVID-19 pandemic, close to one million people in the diocese struggle to put food on the table. We ask that you please prayerfully consider making a donation to support Episcopal Charities Sunday by donating at ec-ny.org/ecsunday or by texting SUNDAY to 91999 and be sure to let them know you are a member of our parish in the notes area.
AN UPDATE ON ECCLESIA MINISTRY
For the past month, the Ecclesia Ministry has resumed worship and celebration of the Eucharist at 2:00 p.m. at the Church of the Transfiguration—either outdoors on a patio in the church garden, or indoors under strict COVID-related limitations (Masks & social distancing in either setting.)

The Ecclesia community will continue to meet at the Church of the Transfiguration (29th Street between Madison & Fifth Avenue) while limitations of gatherings continue in the city parks. While the sponsoring congregations are unable to resume their assembly lines to provide the bag lunches, the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen has generously provided bag lunches to distribute in the meantime. Thank you HASK!

Congregants share the Eucharist with bread and grape juice that are packaged in individual, sealed containers distributed after the Eucharistic prayer (see below).

The Rev. Seamus Campbell is providing the ongoing leadership of this hardy community, with support from the Ecumenical Outreach Partnership—a ministry of the Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church, St. Thomas Church, and St. Patrick’s Cathedral.

Members of Holy Apostles are invited to join the weekly Ecclesia Eucharist at the Church of the Transfiguration—and we will look forward to resuming our own assembly line for bag lunches in due course.

HONEY EXTRACTION
Recently, a few of us gathered in the Holy Apostles Mission House for honey extraction activities (check out the photos here). We have yet to bottle the honey but that is in the works. This honey is from last Fall. The plan had been to extract the honey this spring but COVID-19 arrived to put the damper on those plans. Incidentally, there is still honey on the hives that we will harvest in the next few weeks from this Spring/Summer. A special "Thank You" to the members of the honey pod who were present including: Norma Moy Chin, Daniel Moy Chin, Richard Longinetti, Betsy Farren, Sanou Yapo, John Covington, Charlie Kramer, and Steve Turtell. If you would like more information about our honey program, please contact me.

CORONAVIRUS HOT MEAL DISTRIBUTION CAMPAIGN
Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen, the largest soup kitchen in New York State, has launched a coronavirus hot meal distribution campaign that aims to connect New Yorkers who lack reliable access to sufficient quantities of nutritious food with already-prepared hot meals. The campaign is inspired by national emergency food response efforts during the last two decades of natural disasters. By partnering with local culinary figures who have contributed their time and talent to relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy, Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen will be able to continue serving hot meals to New Yorkers who have come to rely on the soup kitchen for sustenance, while also expanding to feed and sustain residents who will increasingly feel financial constraints from business closures and cut-backs.
LIFE AT HOLY APOSTLES SOUP KITCHEN
Here is a quick look at just how the Holy Apostles Soup Kitchen programs continued to meet the challenges presented as we proceeded under COVID-19 restrictions:

  1. From September 14 through September 20, we served 4,056 grab and go meals onsite and prepared 28,075 bagged lunches and pantry bags for total of 32,131 meals. The serving and preparation of which was made possible by the 56 volunteers who donated 210 hours of service.
  2. The Social Services volunteers and staff for the week of September 14 through September 18 consisted of 536 interactions including the following: 12 "One Sight" Vision Screening referral; the distribution of 24 pairs of reading glasses; 89 pieces of clothing or clothing referrals; 79 personal hygiene/toiletry pack; 135 mail intake/pick ups; 27 identification cards; 145 personal protection masks; and 30 haircut vouchers. This week also saw the following being written for our guests: 2 detox/rehab referrals; 2 medical/health referrals; and 2 miscellaneous referrals.

We’ll provide another update next week on the activities of New York City’s largest Emergency Feeding Program. Your support is invaluable to all that we do.
