Hi there,

Fall has arrived! We are enjoying this lovely mild weather and hope you are too! We also hope you enjoy this month's buzzworthy news and exciting events.
Embrace the beautiful scenery of red, yellow, gold and orange as leaves begin to change colour during these next few weeks, signaling the transition from summer to winter. Our conservation areas astound as they showcase the brilliant and incredible hues of trees everywhere. Appreciate the beauty nature brings during this autumn season and visit each one of our top 5 places to see in the Lake Simcoe watershed.
The Kettleby Dam Removal Project is now complete. This project has re-established connections for Redside Dace (fish species) migration through the removal of an artificial barrier that was in place for over 50 years to fill a large pond for recreational use by Kettleby Valley Camp. With the camp’s full support we were able to enhance the stream and aquatic habitat to meet the needs of the endangered Redside Dace.

Naturalization of this area included incorporating pool and riffles for fish migration and overhanging streamside vegetation for protection. The plantings along the streambank included grasses, wildflowers and small shrubs that are also important for fish protection and food. Returning the creek to a free-flowing state has helped to improve its overall health and we're happy with the end result of this restoration project.
The native meadow at Rogers Reservoir is doing exceptionally well! A high mow was done this summer to help control non-native species and allow the native species to thrive. The native flowers looked wonderful this summer and will look even better next year as the native species continue to establish. We will be seeding some areas this fall, as well as next year to give them a boost! Keep an eye out.
Did you know that today is National Tree Day? Today we celebrate and appreciate the benefits that trees provide us such as clean air, wildlife habitat, and a connection to nature. Take a moment to get outside (in the rain) if you can and enjoy a tree near you!
Have you checked out our latest Conservation Matters article published in Lake Simcoe Living magazine? It's all about the wonderous world of wetlands. You'll enjoy some interesting new facts and can search for wetland words on page 20 of the magazine!
