Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day

June is National Indigenous History month. Learn about the history, culture and diversity of the First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples of Turtle Island. It is also a time to celebrate the strength and resiliency of Indigenous peoples, including Indigenous women change makers, past and present. As we approach June 21st, National Indigenous Peoples Day, stay posted for events in your area to mark and celebrate this very important day.

Aboriginal Awareness Week 

Opening ceremonies for Aboriginal Awareness Week take place Monday, June 15 at noon (MST) online. 

The event is free and open to all. Help celebrate the diversity and rich history of the Indigenous peoples of Canada. 

Visit the Honouring Mother Earth website on June 15 for the 2020 opening ceremonies. 

11th Annual Walk for Reconciliation 

This year's Walk for Reconciliation, hosted by Aspen Family and Community Network Society is being taken virtual in an effort to keep attendees safe and healthy.

Watch the Facebook event for a video series leading up to Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21st as well as a live video release on Sunday, June 21st in honour of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples of Canada.

Reconciliation at the Women's Centre
New on the blog, read an update on the Reconciliation workshops, events and learning which took place at the Women's Centre in 2019. 

The Centre has developed Elder protocols to respectfully engage with knowledge keepers and a new Reconciliation training workshop will launch later this year. Stay posted to our website, social media and newsletters for ongoing updates. 
Indigenous Peoples Day
Celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day virtually with The Women's Centre of Calgary on Friday, June 19, 1:00 P.M.

We have invited special guests Jacki Wabasca, Livia Manywounds, and Estelle Goulet to teach us about the importance of National Indigenous Peoples Day. Tapisa Kilabuk, a board member and Truth and Reconciliation committee member of the Women's Centre of Calgary will be hosting a discussion with Jacki and Livia with a special traditional dance performance by Estelle & Jacki. We are very grateful to have all four join us to share knowledge and celebrate the beautiful culture and resilience of Indigenous people past and present.
