To My Hunter Mill District Neighbors:
Volunteerism in Hunter Mill District and throughout the county have arguably never been more important than during this pandemic these last few months. When this all began in March, and even during the dark weeks when the news seemed to be all bad, my office was overwhelmed with offers from generous residents who wanted to help their neighbors in need. You showed up when you were needed and I will always be grateful. Countywide, it was reported today that
volunteers have logged more than 22,000 hours
in county efforts
so far during the pandemic, helping with such tasks as d
elivering medication from pharmacies, grocery shopping, food distribution, collecting and sorting donations and more. And these hours don't include the many neighbors who dropped off books and food to older adults or young families,
made face masks, called to make sure neighbors were OK, or in the case of
our neighbor Muriel
in April
, made sure birthday celebrations took place. There is still more need in our community, so if you have the time and ability, I encourage you to continue looking for ways to help. Two resources:
Speaking of volunteers who go above and beyond, this week I had the opportunity to tour an historic and important asset in Hunter Mill and the Town of Vienna - the Vienna Volunteer Fire Department (photo above). Founded in 1903, the department has been serving our area for 117 years! Last year, the 106 member department logged 35,000 hours of service, which is the most of any volunteer fire department in the county.

Route 7 Lane Shifts and Traffic Changes Delayed Until June 26 Between Baron Cameron Avenue and Carpers Farm Way
Beginning on or about June 26, drivers on Route 7 will experience lane shifts and temporary traffic pattern changes between Baron Cameron Avenue and Carpers Farm Way while crews reconstruct the Delta Glen Court intersection and shift eastbound Route 7 traffic to the north.

Grant Program for Small Businesses
and Nonprofits

The Fairfax RISE (RISE – Relief Initiative to Support Employers) grant program provides immediate relief to small businesses and nonprofits impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The Board of Supervisors wants to assist small businesses and nonprofit organizations to remain in business through the COVID-19 emergency and address gaps that may exist among complementary programs. The grant will not have to be repaid. Applications are being accepted now through June 15.

The grant program also establishes a minimum allocation of 30% of total funding toward awards for women-owned, minority-owned, and/or veteran-owned businesses. It is funded through an allocation of the Coronavirus Relief Funds provided through the federal CARES Act.
