SHRP 2 Ranked #1 in Georgia
The U.S. Federal Highway Administration’s (FHWA) Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP2) Traffic Incident Management (TIM) training course for responders and transportation officials is one of the most important courses available to teach safe, quick incident clearance and scene management.

Georgia is ranked #1 in the nation for the percentage of SHRP2-trained responders. As of May 24, 2021, FHWA reports that Georgia has trained 26,940 responders, or 94 percent of the reported responder forces statewide.

This is no small accomplishment. The focus, funding, and resources that the Georgia Department of Transportation puts into its statewide TIM program, of which this training is a part, helps keep responders and travelers safe on Georgia’s roadways.

How HERO Saved the Day: COVID-19
Life for the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) Highway Emergency Response Operator (HERO) changed during the pandemic. Not only did it demand the best of HERO, but it also showed the resilience of the Operators.

HEROs are conditioned to interact with the public daily. To ensure the safety of motoring public, emergency responders and the Operators, additional sanitation precautions were established.

This included sanitizing the entire fleet, issuing personal supplies to individuals for self-sanitation, and setting up sanitization stations at each HERO location.
