Principal's Corner

There are many instances in Scripture that show the importance of a shared meal - from Abraham's hospitality toward his three unknown guests, to the wedding feast at Cana, the feeding of the five thousand, and of course, the Last Supper. Sitting down together and sharing a meal is something that builds relationships and develops positive lines of communication. I encourage each of our families to try to share a meal together every day. During the meal, practice the art of conversation with your kids. Discuss your day and theirs in a way that builds strong family bonds and always serves to glorify God.

Great article on Catholic Schools in the Wall Street Journal

Check out this wonderful op-ed in the Wall Street Journal about the success of Catholic Schools and their students. We take holy pride in preparing our students well for high school and Heaven at St. Benedict, and it is wonderful to see Catholic Schools being recognized nationally.

We NEED Playground Champs!!

Parents, we will not be able to raise $300,000

without everyone's help!!

Remember, our students will use this new playground space

every day - 5 days a week!

Plus, the new playground will be enjoyed by

ALL of our students from JK-8th grade!

This is the gift that keeps on giving....for YEARS!!

Here's what we need you to do THIS WEEK...

  • Give online by Nov. 29th (or send your check in with your student to the front desk to avoid the processing fee).
  • Sign up to be a Playground Champion by clicking FUNDRAISE at the bottom of our giving page and following the prompts. Here's a short tutorial on how easy it is - plus you get 2 PTO HOURS!
  • Share our giving page with friends and family over email and social media (if you don't sign up to be a playground champ, this is a REALLY easy way to help spread the word.)

Thank you for doing your part to help us build a new playground for our children!

Grandparents Day - Thank you!

Thank you to all of our Comet parents who volunteered to help us welcome over 160 grandparents to this beautiful and special day for our students and our families! We'll have a video to share from the day, but in the meantime here are a few snapshots to enjoy!

Photos Please!

Parents, if you have taken photos of your Comets at school sports, club activities, field trips or classroom events that you can share with our SBCS Yearbook Manager, Linda Houghton, please do! Email them to her at ms.lkh@me.com.

Thank you!

Mr. Cronheim's Easter Psalms Challenge

The Psalms are the voices of the church. - St. Ambrose

The most valuable thing the Psalms do for me is to express the same delight in God which made David dance. – C.S. Lewis

The Psalms are, as St. Ambrose says, the voices of the Church, and for the 150 days from Grandparents’ Day to Easter Sunday you are invited to raise your voice (and hearts and minds) with the Church by praying one psalm a day.

The rules are simple; in fact, there is only one rule: read one psalm a day and think about it prayerfully while you work, play, and rest. Choose the translation you prefer, read the psalms in hardcopy or online, but read one psalm and only one psalm every day, in order, from Psalm 1 to Psalm 150.

The rewards will be tremendous, grace being the chief reward and a pizza party (for students) and house points (for parents) being the most tangible. Grace is infinitely more important.

To help you keep track of your reading, I am including a checklist with the day, date, and psalm.
