Dear Southern Door Community,
As we enter these last two weeks of school, we are grateful for all the efforts taken by so many so that we could finish the year strong! Educating our students during this unusual time has required the dedication, resilience, and belief that each one of us - students, staff, parents, family, and community - had an important part in ensuring we could be successful at being in school every day this year. Academic data continues to show that our students have made great progress in their learning this year.
 
Our athletic teams are doing great, our music programs are preparing for their final concerts, and our classrooms are completing final projects and activities. The FFA celebrated their annual awards event last night, and next week, the High School Awards will be livestreamed on Wednesday at 7p on Facebook. That event is always a wonderful testament to the many accomplishments of our students as they graduate college, career, and community ready.

This week, we feel a sense of real normalcy, as our students get to resume the planting of the school yard garden. Our Farm to School committee has done an awesome job of expanding not only the types of seeds to be planted in the garden, but also in providing educational tools and resources. Check out a video at this link, done by committee members Rich Olson and Toni Sorenson. They share with students how gardening is similar to the farmers' planting of crops. They did a great job and you may find that you learn some things as well!

It is our collective teamwork that has come together to support all of our students in their accomplishments and yes, even the challenges we all faced this year. Our journey this year is what makes Southern Door stand out from all the other schools and why we are Eagle Proud and Eagle Strong!

COVID-19 VACCINATION CLINICS FOR ELIGIBLE STUDENTS
Door County Medical Center anticipates that the State of Wisconsin will be approving vaccination of individuals age 12-17 years old with the Pfizer Covid-19 vaccine by the end of the week. Door County Medical Center is planning a walk-in vaccination clinic in our pediatric department on May 19th and 20th from 3pm to 6pm. All children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. MUSICAL CHOSEN FOR SHOWCASE - Saturday, May 15 - 7p
Congratulations to Southern Door’s music department and its production of “Hello, Baby” as one of 24 musicals chosen for the Center Stage High School Musical Theater Program Showcase, sponsored by the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center. 🌟

The students were offered virtual workshops on choreography, preparing for auditions, stagecraft, etc. with well known Broadway Actors and professionals. Our musical was also able to be adjudicated. On Saturday, May 15 on wearegreenbay.com at 7 pm, you can tune in to the Center Stage Showcase. We are not sure how much our students will be featured. Mackenzie Finger and Dale Swanson were part of the group of students from various high schools to record One Day More as part of this showcase.  The full showcase video will also be available on the Fox Cities Performing Arts Center’s website at foxcitiespac.com/virtualmission beginning at 9a on Monday, May 17.
"In this unprecedented year we recorded our musical scene by scene live in our auditorium using three cameras, then editing and combining those scenes to complete the final performances. Before the video recordings were released to the public, we held a Red Carpet Event: the cast and crew dressed up, shared a catered meal, and then viewed Hello, My Baby. The evening was a huge success and in the midst of all the changes this year, we had a great reason to celebrate! We are very happy and proud to be a part of the Center Stage Program, and thankful for all the opportunities that were offered to our theater students. We are looking forward to our fall musical in 2021 in the hope that we will be back doing live performances!"
