Dear ESF Students,
The following message was sent to faculty and staff earlier today.
Sincerely,
Office of Communications
Dear ESF Faculty and Staff,

ESF is strengthening its expectations regarding masks and face coverings to the following:

  • Wear a mask or face covering while on campus.
  • Wear a mask or face covering off campus where social distancing measures cannot be maintained.

For instruction on wearing a mask properly, please watch this video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OABvzu9e-hw

Those responsible for classrooms and labs must ask students who enter these spaces without a proper face covering to comply with the expectations. Further, a specific class or lab session can be canceled if the student refuses to comply. Syllabi can be updated with the following statement:

Per SUNY ESF requirements, students must wear face masks or coverings while on campus. Failure to comply with this requirement will result in removal from the classroom for that in-person class session and an absence being recorded. Repeated failure to comply may result in a referral to the Division of Student Affairs. Individuals unable to wear a mask for medical reasons should contact the Syracuse University Center for Disability Resources.

All other documents that reference expectations for masks and face coverings and are applicable to ESF faculty, staff, and students should be updated to reflect the above expectations.

Employees who are not in compliance should be referred to their immediate supervisor. Employees seeking medical accommodations regarding wearing masks should contact the Office of Human Resources.

Summary of Expected Behaviors
  • Wear a mask or face covering while on campus.
  • Wear a mask or face covering off campus where social distancing measures cannot be maintained.
  • Avoid close contact: maintain a 6’ distance.
  • Wash your hands often.
  • Cover coughs/sneezes.
  • Clean and disinfect (see Facilities Info and FAQs in the right column on this page: www.esf.edu/restart/).
  • Monitor your daily health.
  • Stay home when you’re sick.
