Meditation Moment

From the Pastor ....

"Be joyful always. Pray without ceasing.
Be thankful in all circumstances."

(1 Thessalonians 5:16-18)

Remember that old Heinz Ketchup commercial, "good things come to those who wait"? This was before the plastic squeeze container where you had to be patient for the ketchup to slowly come out of the glass bottle. It's really hard to be patient. I can identify with the challenge of waiting and then being amazed at God's provision in life.

In December of 2014, God finally answered my prayers of a deep longing inmy heart. I always dreamed of being married to a Christian husband. Since my dad looks like Santa Claus, and Brian and I got engaged during the holiday season, we announced on Facebook this fun picture with the caption: "Wow, Santa is real! I asked for a husband in 2015!"

Our Savior's, did you know that this is OUR anniversary today? One year ago today, you held a congregational meeting to call me as your new pastor! It was a long wait for you to find the right match. In a similar way, this vote was like a "proposal." I'm sure there were times of great discouragement and impatience in the process. That is only natural. While we never imagined a pandemic would occur in our first year together, there is nowhere else I'd rather be than serve as your pastor. OSLC is such a loving and authentic faith family. I have full confidence that this God of miracles who brought us together has wonderful plans up His Divine sleeves. God is so very good and capable of anything we dream.

May you trust and know that God is with you on your journey. You are deeply loved. God is with you and Jesus hears your prayers.

Faithfully,

Pastor Karna

Wednesday LIVE Worship at 6:30 pm OSLC West Parking Lot

Join us for "Meet the Son at FM 100.1"
We will begin a live radio broadcast worship service in our West parking lot next to the CLC each Wednesday at 6:30 pm. Think of this as a drive-in movie with liturgy and music. All you need to do is tune your radio to FM 100.1 to hear Pastor Karna and the worship leaders (Olson Family, Jane and Chad) conduct worship.

If you haven't guessed, this worship service is designed to be a safe way for us to gather in person without spreading COVID-19. Consequently, there are a number of safety and procedure considerations. We will also continue the online worship on Sundays at 9 am.
  1. When you pull into the West parking lot, stop at the table by the circle round to pick up a bulletin, children's activity pack and leave your offering.

  2. Bring your own communion elements of bread/crackers and juice.

  3. Park your vehicle in any section of the lot except for the back row closest to the street. The nearby power lines interfere with the radio signal.

  4. Park your vehicle with its front end pointing north toward the small hill where the service will be held.

  5. To reduce air pollution, consider turning off your vehicle and open the windows an inch or two for ventilation. If you want to open your windows wider, we strongly urge you to wear face masks to help prevent the spread of infection

  6. Please remain in your vehicles as the radio transmitter can only be heard through your FM dial.

  7. For safety, the church will remain locked down. No bathrooms will be available, so please plan accordingly. (The service will be about 30 minutes.)

  8. To avoid traffic problems returning to Olive Street after the service, please consider only turning right when exiting the parking lot.

  9. The staff will dismiss vehicles by rows, starting with the front (northern) rows first to avoid traffic jams and pollution from cars idling.

We look forward to having windshield time with you!

Care of Creation Tip
In gratitude, caring for God's Air, Water, and Land

Doing Better
Americans discard about 254 million tons of trash each year - almost 3/4 ton per person. Of that amount we compost and recycle only a third of it. We can do better than that to protect our air, water, and land. If you aren't composting and recycling, start. If you are, see if you can do more. Check this web site for helpful ideas:

Announcements

Morning Prayer and Praise

Starting the day with a moment of prayer and pausing to focus on God can set us on a good trajectory. Life can be overwhelming during a pandemic. As an additional resource, Pastor Karna is now offering a daily Facebook Livestream moment Monday-Fridays around 8:30 AM called, "Prayer and Praise." Each day she will sing a hymn or a praise song and follow it up with a prayer. These 3-5 minute videos will also be located on our new Morning Prayer and Praise page found on our website. May you trust and know that God is with you always.
Women's Bible Study

Our second summer women's Bible study will be held on Tuesday,
August 4, at 9:30 am in the yard at 663 South Broadway in Stillwater.
Things look differently this year as there will be no food provided although those attending are encouraged to bring their own snack, beverage and mask.  Chad Larson will lead this study "Just Love".  This session, In the nation: Giving birth to justice, is a timely study given experiences in our nation as of late.  We look forward to seeing you there. And invite a friend.

Stephen Ministry

All Alone?

Don't be. God doesn't want us to be all alone. He wants us to turn to others when things are bothering us. Stephen Ministers will walk with you through your troubles and be there for you when you need them.

OSLC has had Stephen Ministry since 2018. Since the beginning of this ministry, 15 trained Stephen Ministers have walked with 22 members and friends of our congregation during life's challenges. Perhaps you or someone you know could benefit from having a caring, listening and nonjudgmental ear. In addition, the Stephen Leaders at OSLC are looking ahead to training a second group of Stephen Ministers. If you might be interested in becoming a Stephen Minister or if you know of someone who could benefit from having a Stephen Minister, please contact Stephen Leaders Becky Maier or Andrea Valley or reach out to Pastor Karna. Any of our current Stephen Ministers can also answer questions and share their experience.
