Dear Trinity Family & Friends -

Last month we received an inquiry on behalf of Deerfield Montessori to decrease the rent by $1000 per month due to the challenges of enrollment during these COVID days. We took their request to our Operations Committee and subsequently to the Church Council. It required careful consideration because this factors significantly into Trinity's budget as well.

Because our partnership is of utmost importance and brings to life one of the core values of our ministry, "Love of Children", we affirmed their request.

Therefore, in an addendum to our contract, we will reduce the rent for 5 months, September 2020 - January 2021. We will meet with them in early January to re-assess.

Pandemic Stress

The stresses of the Pandemic are being felt in many ways by very many people. We are thankful that the work of the Montessori School can continue even in reduced fashion. We are grateful that the mission of Trinity Church continues even in altered ways. (You'll see some examples in the articles and pictures below.)   We are celebrating your continued support of our ministries virtually. Amazingly, average worship attendance in these weeks has equaled or surpassed in person worship. We have had a variety of guests, friends and family for whom the "long-distance" experience makes worshipping with us possible. At the same time, we are mindful of about 7 households for whom the virtual experience is not workable. We want to make sure that we are not leaving anyone behind.

September 27 - We are planning to hold an In-Person Outdoor Worship at Trinity. (Rain date -- October 4) The details are being planned by a sub-committee appointed by Council. There are many logistics to provide for safety, sanitation, distancing, etc. Our Safety Protocols will be published in advance so you can study them and register your attendance. In the meantime - grab your mask and your favorite lawn chair (or we'll make provisions for you to stay in your car if you wish). We are also attempting to design a way to simultaneously broadcast the service on Zoom as well, so we don't lose those for whom in-person attendance is not an option.

Our Relative Health & Strength

We give thanks that to date we have not had significant devastation within our congregation -- physical or economic. We do know that there have been health challenges and job challenges in a few households. If there are any difficulties that require emergency assistance, please contact Pastor Dale 847-722-6756. We have confidential ways of connecting you to sources of help.

Financial Bridge

Our Fall Pledge Campaign will begin in a few weeks. Next month you can expect a 3rd Quarter Giving Report so you can see where you are relative to what you had planned in the midst of all the upheaval and can catch up if possible. And if you are able - please consider increasing your gifts so that our benevolence with the Montessori School does not place us in a difficult situation. Any amount would be welcome. For example, an extra $100 per month by 10 households, or $50 by 20 households would make up the difference.

Scripture Reminds Us

We are called to "walk by faith, and not by sight." I sincerely doubt the writer had this pandemic in mind, but I do believe the sentiment applies. Almost everything we are accustomed to seeing and doing has changed. And yet "Trinity" still is. We're busy worshiping God, serving the world, loving one another.

Thank you for your grace and commitment,

Pastor Dale

Update on Trinity's Finances

These are challenging times for families and organizations alike. Trinity, and other churches, face challenges that parallel those of their member families. We are grateful for the ongoing support of the Trinity community.
Even with that support, contributions for the year are below budget. It is likely that this shortfall is a function of two factors: the reduced giving during summer months, which typically occurs every year, is compounded by the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Our expenses for the year now exceed the income we have received. To date, we have been able to use cash reserves to cover the deficit. We have not incurred debt due to this shortfall; Trinity remains debt free overall.
Over the next month, the Operations Committee and the Council will look closely at our expected results for the remainder of the year to determine whether changes to our planning are appropriate.

We appreciate the continued support - at whatever level it can be provided - of our community so we can continue the important work of our Trinity.

Scott

Mission Core - September 2020

For a summer that most of us spent in reduced activities, is sure is going by quickly!

All of our teams, Children, Neighbor and Creation are poised to move into a new activity year with a well-considered list of ideas for ways to reach out and touch the life of our communities.

Our Mission Core part of the Trumpet usually contains information and updates about the projects our three Love teams are up to. But, as I sat here, thinking about how to report on those projects, I could not help thinking about how they compare to the news about the brutal impact of the California wildfires, the farm-flattening Storm Derecho across Iowa and Illinois, and the landfall of Category 4 Hurricane Laura in Texas and Louisiana.

Sometimes our taking paper products or fresh produce to the Deerfield Pantry, or sending some dollars to the Northern Illinois Food Bank or providing some meals to PADS or the Women's Shelter, or creating a modest garden that provides pollen for the bees and butterflies that will pollinate our food crops all seem to be insignificant or "miniscule".

The reality is that regardless of how large or how small our contributions seem, each one does matter. Each time a bee lands on one flower to gather pollen, you and I have expressed our love for God and for God's creation. Every sandwich that nourishes a woman who is fleeing a dangerous relationship demonstrates our compassionate care for that woman's woundedness. Every cleanup bucket kit that we assemble will be used by someone whose life has been swept away by 120 mile per hour winds and torrential rains.

In simplest terms, there is no effort we make that is too small, or is without consequence. Our most important task it to remain 'awake and alert' for the messages of needs that God will send to us through many messengers.

Blessings, and thanks for all that you do in Jesus' name.
Roger

New Floors in the Education Wing

Last month, we had new flooring installed in two rooms of the education wing: the Trinity Sunday School room and the old Fireside Chapel (the large room on the left of the corridor farthest from the Sanctuary). The existing flooring, which was over 20 years old, was in significant disrepair.

Overall, the color and design of the new tile is like the flooring it replaces. The new tiles are treated with a factory-installed coating that will reduce the need to be waxed annually as has been our practice until now.

It is our hope to replace the flooring in additional rooms in the education wing in coming years.
