From June 2019 to June 2020, the Tulare County Employment Report showed an increase of 8.1 percent  in the unemployment rate and a decrease in employment of 31,900.  Additional highlights from the recent report include: 
  • Tulare County's unemployment rate was 17.2 percent in June 2020, nearly double the year-ago estimate of 9.1 percent. 
  • Year over year, employment decreased by 25,200 and the labor force decreased by 10,400. 
  • For the past three months, the unemployment rate in Tulare County has been lower than the unemployment rate in Los Angeles County; this has not occurred in any time for which data is available, going back to 1990.

HOW DOES TULARE COUNTY'S EMPLOYMENT RATE CHANGE OVER TIME?

    

The California Employment Development Department (EDD) reported a 8.1 percent increase in Tulare County's unemployment rate from 9.1 percent in June 2019 to 17.2 percent in  June  2020. 

The month over mont h unemployment rate decreased by 1.0 percent, from a revised 18.2 percent in May to 17.2 percent in June 2020.

HOW MANY JOBS  HAVE COME AND GONE IN THE LAST YEAR & THE LAST MONTH?

YEAR OVER YEAR | A COMPARISON
From June 2019 to June 2020, Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities and Construction were the  only   two industries that showed an increase of jobs. Transportation, Warehousing & Utilities showed the greatest numerical increase of 300 jobs and a growth of 4.3 percent.  Farm  showed the greatest numerical decline with a loss of 15,100 jobs, while Arts, Entertainment & Recreation showed the greatest percent decline with  a loss of 53.8 percent.




 
MONTH OVER MONTH | A COMPARISON
From May to June 2020, Food Services & Drinking Places showed the greatest month-over numerical  and  percent  gain with an increase of 2,000 jobs and a  gain of 26.3 percent.  The partial rebound in jobs in this industry may be short-lived, as California moved to restrict dining operations after the survey period for the June report. Local Government (Education) showed the largest month-over numerical and percent decline with a decrease of 500 jobs and a loss of 3.3 percent.
