Let Us Be Loving, Wise, Patient, and Reconcile Ourselves One to Another
|
|
Dear Friends,
Last week we discussed the birth our nation and of the Episcopal Church. July 17 is the feast day of Bishop William White. Along with Samuel Provoost, he was consecrated at Lambeth Chapel on February 4, 1787. Before being consecrated a bishop, White was a deacon, priest, and chaplain to both the Continental Congress (1777-1789) and the United States Senate until 1800.
He was the first bishop of Pennsylvania; a statesman, theologian, and diplomat. He has been called venerable in days gone by. This bishop served in one parish for 64 years (bishops remained in their parish in the early years of the Church). White was the chief designer of the Constitution of the Episcopal Church; but is probably best known for his temperament.
Bishop White was, and is, venerated as he possessed the virtues of patience, wisdom, and most of all, a reconciling temperament. Today, folks would rather be smart than wise; active rather than patient; and, hold on to their conviction rather than move toward reconciliation. In this busy world, who could imagine staying in one job, one parish for 64 years and settling debates for that amount of time? Perhaps, when you settle in for a once-in-a-lifetime career, God equips you for this type of ministry.
The reading from the Hebrew Scripture for this day comes from the prophet Jeremiah. Prior to today’s reading, Jeremiah says (I’m paraphrasing here) “Who am I to proclaim the word of God?” God responds, “I’ve known you from the beginning of time and you’ll be fine.” Like William White, you and I have been known by God before we were knit together in the womb and therefore, God and we have a history together.
Sixty-four years in one place and yet upwardly mobile and patient at the same time! It takes a lot of patience, wisdom, a reconciling attitude, and a whole lot of love and love of God to do this. But after all, aren’t we all in the same place our entire lives? Don’t we all inhabit the same planet? Therefore, aren’t we all in the same place with the same folks? And since we spend an eternity with our God, let us follow the example of William White and be loving, wise, patient, and reconcile ourselves one to another.
Wishing you a hurricane-free July, I am God’s servant and yours,
Eric+

Trinity Welcomes New Administrator
|
|
Trinity is pleased to introduce our new
Parish Office Administrator - Donna Knutson & her dog, Riot,
who has requested the title of Parish Poodle
A note from Donna: Thank you, Trinity Family, for welcoming me with such open arms. I have been in Apalachicola since 2015 and have fallen in love with the place and the people. I left Atlanta after retiring from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in 2018, and went back to work for them at the start of the pandemic. I currently work part-time helping CDC meet their mission through a consulting firm called Guidehouse. For fun I love to fish, cook, and generally hang out with friends. I am a second year volunteer on the St. George Island turtle patrol and start each day from May-October walking a couple of miles on the beach helping save the turtles. Feel free to stop by and introduce yourselves - and do not hesitate to call on me if there is something I can do to help out.

Beware of Pesky Varmints on Trinity's Grounds!
|
|
It is quite evident that some unwanted tenants (look closely at photos below) have taken up residence beneath Benedict Hall, the Rectory, and perhaps our shed. These pesky varmints are both unwanted and may be dangerous, as rabies can be found in these animals; therefore, Franklin County Animal Control has set up a trap (in the Memorial Garden behind a bench near the water hose) to collect these raccoons. Please be aware of your surroundings while on Trinity's grounds until these boys and girls have been relocated.
