Dear St. Serra Community,

I want to start by thanking you for your continued patience as we prepare for the beginning of the school year.  On Monday of this week, I announced that St. Serra would open the school year in our  Distance Learning plan (Level 2), even if the waiver, allowing us to return to in-person instruction, was granted by the California Department of Public Health.  As the first day of school was quickly approaching, we were concerned about Orange County’s case counts and status on the state’s watch list.

Since then, it has been announced that August 19th was the first day Orange County fell below the state’s data monitoring thresholds for COVID-19.  This is excellent news for our County and our children!

Based on this new information, if our waiver application is approved, St. Serra will now begin with in-person instruction for Grades TK-6 on September 8th. The waiver does not apply to Grades 7 and 8. If Orange County is removed completely from the watch list and maintains this status for 14 consecutive days, St. Serra will reopen for in-person instruction for all grades, TK-8. We also know that Governor Newsom will be announcing a new set of criteria on Monday; however, we do not know if the new criteria will be more or less strict.

The Preschool is already cleared to open for in-person instruction on September 14th.

Again, I want to thank you for your understanding of these ever changing times and scenarios that are before us.   We continue to work on a daily basis towards students returning to campus for in-person instruction.  We are prepared for another amazing year at St. Serra.

Always Striving,

Tim Tolzda, Senior Principal
