At Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, a priceless tree was lost during Hurricane Irma. Two UF faculty cloned the campus ‘moon tree’ as a donation to continue its legacy. Read more here.

Creating a More Diverse Workforce in Forestry
NC State and Tuskegee University will offer an accelerated graduate degree program to students from underrepresented groups. The primary purpose of the program is to recruit students from underrepresented groups and increase their awareness of forestry and natural resources career opportunities. Read more here.

Prescribed Burn Workshop for Forest Landowners Louisiana in October
This training workshop, delivered by Louisiana Department of Forestry and Louisiana State University Extension, will enable landowners to burn their lands safely and legally. There are more than 8 topics covering fuels to burn windows to liability and more. The training will also help attendees to become Louisiana Certified Burn Managers. Forest Economic Contributions Summit: Strategies for Development, Communication & Education on the Sector's Role in the South 
Forest Economic data is used to advocate for and communication about forestry and the forest products industry. However, there have been challenges regarding how the data is analyzed and how it may be communicated. The "Forest Economic Contributions Summit: Strategies for Development, Communication & Education on the Sector's Role in the South" will provide information on a new protocol for analyzing data and more. The intent of the summit is to connect forest economic contribution analysts, economic development specialist and forestry advocates to learn from each other and improve the overall understanding, usage and communication of forest economic contribution data. The summit is being organized by Southern Regional Extension Forestry, Southern Group of State Foresters, Kentucky Division of Forestry, University of Kentucky, Louisiana Tech, Georgia Forestry Commission, Alabama Forestry Commission and South Carolina Forestry Commission and is planned for March 10-11, 2020 in New Orleans, LA. Farm Bill 2018: Programs of Interest to Landowners: Publication from NCSU
North Carolina State University released an Extension publication which highlights the particular programs of interest for landowners, in the 2018 Farm Bill. Lists of programs include forestry-specific programs, forestry in conservation and energy programs, and repealed programs. Read it here .

Twenty-one million family forest owners collectively own the largest portion of the forests in the U.S. One of the biggest hurdles to stewardship is not having a forest management plan. American Forest Foundation is working to change that. Read more here.

Mass Timber University Grant Program Projects Support Forest Health and Vibrant Communities

Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals Bi-annual Conference Call for Presentations
The call for presentations for ANREP's bi-annual conference is open. Submit abstracts for presentations, posters, and special sessions by October 11, 2019. The binannual conference is May 3-6, 2020 in Bend, OR. Place-Based and Future-Focused is the theme of this meeting and will include field trips, interactive presentations, meeting time and more. The Rural Business-Cooperative Service, USDA is issuing a Notice of Solicitation of Applications for financial assistance under the Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) for Federal Fiscal Year (FY) 2020. NFWF Emergency Coastal Resilience Request for Proposals
The National Fish and Wildlife Foundation (NFWF) announced the Emergency Coastal Resilience Request for Proposal (RFP) which officially opened August 9 and will close November 12, 2019. Find the full RFP here. There will also be two applicant webinars offered September 4th, 10th and 11th. September 4th is "Coastal communities impacted by hurricanes Florence and Michael, and Wildfires. September 10th at 6:30 pm ET and September 11 at 8:30 am CT will be Coastal Communities Impacted by Typhoon Yutu . Sustainable Forestry Initiative Conservation Grants
The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is accepting proposals for its Conservation Grants Program through 11:59 PM ET, September 30. These projects provide the science-based data needed by resource professionals to improve forest management and to assess conservation values. SFI is placing a priority on projects which measure, demonstrate, or establish methodologies to demonstrate, the conservation-related values of SFI-certified forestlands, or such values which result from application of the SFI Fiber Sourcing standard. Ideally such projects will be scalable to a regional, or bio-regional scale (e.g., Ponderosa Pine forests, Boreal Plains, Longleaf Pine ecosystem, the central hardwood forest, etc.).
