Take to the water next year with an upgraded engine system – like Hinckley owners Scott and Barb Millar, whose recently re-powered 40-foot vessel received expert care and upgrades from team Haven Harbour.
"If you ask Scott and Barb, they have been waiting patiently on the re-power of their Classic Hinckley, and we thank them for that," said Director of Service Greta Sommers. "Surprisingly, parts availability and labor are still impacted by COVID-19. Fortunately, before the winterization season comes to a close, we will have the installation of a new Beta 38 completed, with their vessel sea trialed and, sadly, winterized."
Many obstacles faced our crew on their road to completion. The old engine, and fiberglassed fuel tank below it, were removed, with the exhaust system receiving modifications. Repairs were made to the shaft log, rebedding to the shaft tube, and replacement of the shaft seal with a dripless one. With engine out, an opportunity was seized to replace dry rotted hoses within the engine's vicinity, in addition to the rebedding of leaky cockpit drains. Last, the new Beta 38 engine was installed – Beta chosen over other manufacturers for a smaller footprint, yet similar horsepower.
All the while, the team stripped exterior teak to bare wood – including the spreaders following their repair – and applied eight clean coats of Epifanes varnish.
"When I look back on this project, I am proud that our team pulled it all together. It takes considerable planning and patience to coordinate and persevere on a project of this scope. I look forward to the day that we go to sea trial," added Greta.
