USHJA Recognized Riding Academy Spotlight
We heard from Nicolle Madonna Cerio with CNY EQ, a USHJA Recognized Riding Academy in Syracuse, New York.

Tell us about your program and who you serve.
A small, specialized hunter jumper program catering to riders who aspire to compete at a higher level. Almost all of our horses are rehabbed show horses. We put a huge emphasis on proper horsemanship and maintenance.

What made you want to become a Recognized Riding Academy?
Continuing to support the USHJA and guide our students to appreciate recognized shows.

Tell us about your star lesson horse and why he/she is the best lesson horse around.
Tibri. He went to medal, Maclay and USET Finals multiple times. He loves to teach people to trot but also to flat at the highest levels. His education is impossible to replace.

The Marshall & Sterling Insurance/USHJA National Championships are set to return to Las Vegas November 15-21. Learn more about the event and qualifying here.
USHJA Outreach Member Highlight
Heather Scanlon, originally Lancaster Pa., now Culleoka Tenn., was the 2020 champion of the Outreach Hunter Derby.

What did you enjoy about participating in the Outreach program in 2020?
I really enjoyed being able to have shows to get my horses and riders to that were close to home that were well run with fun courses.

How did you get involved in the sport?
My first memory with horses is of "helping" my mom cold soak a horse's leg at age 4. Once I took my first riding lesson, I was hooked ever since! I knew I wanted to be a trainer from a young age and have chased my dreams.

What are riding goals for this year?
My riding goals are to bring along my young horses, gaining them experience at the Outreach shows in our area, compete more in the jumper divisions, and show in a USHJA National Hunter Derby.

What do you enjoy most about the USHJA community?
I really enjoy the commitment USHJA has to serving its members. I have enjoyed all of the webinar opportunities over the past year and encourage my students to take advantage of all the educational opportunities USHJA offers.
