Thank you, teachers, for all you do!
Does this quote from Dr. Shulman resonate with you?
"...After some 30 years of doing such work, I have concluded that classroom teaching - particularly at the elementary and secondary levels - is the most demanding, subtle, nuanced, and frightening activity our species has ever invented. In fact, when I compared the complexity of teaching with the much more highly rewarded profession, "doing medicine," I concluded that the only time medicine ever approaches the complexity of an average day for a classroom teacher is in an emergency room during a natural disaster...When 30 patients want your attention at the same time, only then do you approach the complexity of the average classroom on an average day."
Lee Shulman, Ph.D., Professor of Education at Michigan State University & Stanford University

Congratulations to Beth Glazier, Merrill Elementary School!
Her colleague writes, "Beth is an inspiration on so many levels. She is one of the most compassionate and encouraging teachers with whom I have worked. She goes above and beyond to meet the individual needs of students. Beth is an exemplary Title 1 teacher. She is in constant communication with her colleagues to discuss the needs of students and determine the role she plays in meeting those needs. She also makes sure the personal needs of students are met, outside of the school and classroom. She is an advocate for all students and staff.
Beth has led the charge for deeper understanding of classroom data. She has coached staff in digging deeper into the data available and how to analyze the needs of students through the use of this data. Beth is always available to staff for extra support and is encouraging and helpful in determining how to impact student learning with this data."

At-Home, Summer Learning Supports
As parents and caregivers continue to navigate the challenges of remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many are having to play a larger role in their child’s instruction than usual. The What Works Clearinghouse (WWC) just released two sets of math tips for parents and caregivers to support children’s learning of fractions and algebra at home. These tip sheets provide easy-to-implement activities and strategies to support understanding of fractions in grades K–8 and algebra in grades 6–12.
