October is National Principals Month
October has been designated as National Principals Month to recognize the essential role principals play in making a school great. The Baldwin County School District is fortunate to have an amazing group of principals leading our schools. These outstanding leaders show a true commitment to leading our young people to a prosperous future. They support and guide our teachers and staff, resulting in productive learning environments for our students. Whether they lead an early learning, elementary, middle, or high school, our principals are visionaries who lead us in providing the best possible education to future generations—and when a global pandemic turned education on its head, they rose to the occasion.
Many of our students see their principals as role models, and our school leaders have set great examples for children to follow. They are team leaders, coaches, counselors, collaborators, cheerleaders, and so much more, all in one. Our principals know that when good school leaders excel, their actions can change the lives of students, staff, and an entire community. Thank you to each of our principals for their leadership and for going the extra mile for our students! We appreciate you!

BCSD Celebrates National School Bus Safety Week
The week of October 18-22 has been designated as National Bus Safety Week. The Baldwin County School District would like to thank our bus drivers who take great pride in their task of transporting our students to and from school safely every day.
National School Bus Safety Week is held during the third full week of October each year. This week is focused on parents, teachers, students, support staff, school administrators, motorists, and school bus operators coming together to address the importance of bus safety.
The entire Baldwin County School Transportation Department is to be commended for its hard work during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Our bus drivers continue to rise to the challenge of making the school bus experience safer by installing hand sanitizing stations on buses, requiring mandatory masks, and making sure fewer direct contact between students is possible through seating arrangements and loading and unloading procedures.
Please take the time during this week to thank our bus drivers for their hard work and for ALWAYS having the safety of our students as the number one priority.

BCSD Celebrates National School Lunch Week
In observance of National School Lunch Week, slated for the week of October 11 -15, the Baldwin County School District would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Baldwin County School Nutrition Department for their continued commitment and dedication to providing healthy, nutritious meals to our students during the school year as well as throughout the summer months. The COVID-19 pandemic has without a doubt shown just how incredibly important school meals are for students and their families.
President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW) in 1962 to promote the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has inside and outside of the classroom. The 2021 NSLW theme is Wild About School Lunch!
The Baldwin County School District commends our school nutrition staff for their efforts to feed the children of the Baldwin County community. Please take the time this week to thank these hard-working and dedicated employees.

REACH Scholarship Signing Ceremony
REACH (Realizing Educational Achievement Can Happen) is the State of Georgia’s first needs-based mentorship and college scholarship program. The mission is to ensure that Georgia’s academically promising students have the academic, social, and financial support needed to graduate from high school, access college and achieve postsecondary success.
Beginning in the 8th grade and through high school, REACH Scholars are paired with a mentor and an academic coach. Scholars must maintain good grades (2.5+ HOPE Calculated GPA), behavior and attendance. Scholars who successfully complete the program and graduate from high school are awarded a $10,000 scholarship ($2,500/year) that can be used at a HOPE-eligible University System of Georgia, Technical College System of Georgia, or private postsecondary institution. If the REACH Scholars attend a partner college or university such as Georgia College, Central Georgia Technical College or Georgia Military College, they will receive a $20,000 scholarship. The scholarship is in addition to any other grant or scholarship the student receives.
The REACH Signing Ceremony is scheduled for October 28th at Oak Hill Middle School. At the signing day ceremony, our REACH scholars will be committing to meeting or exceeding the rigorous academic and behavioral standards that are outlined in the program.
If you or your organization are interested in exploring the many ways you can support the REACH Scholarship Program, all you need to do is contact our board office or visit the Baldwin Charter School System Foundation for Excellence online at www.bcsdfoundation.org.

Watch Out For the Punctuation Police!
Ms. Griner’s second-grade class participated in a “Punctuation Police” classroom activity. Students were in charge of reading a sentence, determining if the punctuation was correct or incorrect, and then rewriting the sentence with the correct punctuation. The students got to play the roles of officer, offender, and judge! They had a blast determining the correct punctuation marks to use in sentences!

Celebrating Georgia PreK Week
To recognize Georgia PreK Week, students enjoyed story time with Ms. Cooper and Ms. Caroline. They read the book, "Jabari Jumps", by Gaia Cornwall. In the story, Jabari learned that it was okay to be scared of doing something you've never done before. After the story, students colored their own "Flat Jabari" to take home to share with their favorite person or take to their favorite place!

Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Celebration
Lakeview Academy had a kickoff celebration PBIS assembly for all students. Students gathered and shared what they knew about Lakeview Academy's PBIS expectations. The PBIS Team shared the incentives that students can earn: Students with 85% positive Dojo for the 9 weeks get to participate in an incentive activity of their choice. Incentive activities include: paint and sip, dance class, walk and talk, basketball, and game time. Students that have 95% positive Dojo for the 9 weeks are part of the 95% Club and get to choose a prize from the PBIS cart. Students also have the opportunity to earn a class incentive by working together as a team to complete a SOAR Path. The class works together to choose an incentive. Teachers also earn incentives for meeting expectations set forth for them. Teachers earn pink tickets that can be exchanged for a variety of items. All of us at Lakeview Academy are excited about showing positive behavior and earning PBIS incentives!
