Resource Guide for Rural Development

United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development Justin Maxson t unveiled a resource guide (PDF, 2.5 MB) to help rural community leaders start and expand employment opportunities and access resources to train, recruit and create a sustainable rural workforce.

America is Back and Open for Business

On the final day of the 2021 SelectUSA Investment Summit, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina M. Raimondo released the following statement:

LEDC Receives USDA Grant to Support Entrepreneurs and

Small Businesses in Spencer County

Rockport, Indiana- Lincolnland Economic Development Corporation (LEDC) receives United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) grant to support small businesses and entrepreneurs in Spencer County with a revolving loan fund.

One of LEDC’s main focuses is to create an environment where, entrepreneurs and small business can not only grow but flourish. With small businesses making up over half of Spencer County’s economy the need to support our entrepreneurs is greater than ever.

With this grant LEDC will be able to loan small amounts of capital (under $10,000) to businesses to assist them in securing equipment, expanding their operations, and creating new jobs. LEDC is encouraging any small business or entrepreneurs needing assistance with capital to apply.

Overall, Spencer County has fared well through the pandemic, but is important to LEDC to keep up to date with opportunities in case another disaster is to hit.”- Valerie Schmidt, Executive Director, LEDC

Leadership Spencer County

Last Months Leadership Spencer County class took place at Holiday World and Splashin' Safari. The Topic was " Exploring Diversity in My County". Students learned about demographic changes and the way it effects the community, identified their cultural lenses, and learned what they can do to be a more open-minded leader. Guest speakers were Jenny Thomas with Habitat for Humanity and Father Crispin Adolfo.

Spencer County Habitat for Humanity Groundbreaking

Spencer County Habitat for Humanity recently broke ground for their new home in Chrisney, IN. They will be looking for volunteers soon. If you are interested, contact Jenny Thomas at spencercountyhabitat@gmail.com

Change in Indiana Youth Employment Law

Effective July 1, 2021, schools will no longer issue work permits for minor employees (under age 18). Instead, employers who employ five or more minor employees will now be responsible for tracking and reporting minor-employee information via the state’s Youth Employment System (YES).
