Donations Sought for Project Backpack

Want to help students start the next school year equipped with all their supplies? Project Backpack is currently accepting donations of school supplies to distribute to students within Elgin Community College's district area for the upcoming school year.


Donations of school supplies will be accepted prior to Monday, July 31 at several location. The event will take place Saturday, August 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Elgin Community College. For more information on school supplies needed and drop off locations, visit the Project Backpack website.

Kane County Student Competes in National Spelling Bee
Kane County 8th Grade Minh Nguyen was one of 291 students that competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee for the crown of the 90th champion. Minh competed with the best of the best and made it through three rounds. 

Ultimately, Minh was just short of the finals and did not score high enough on the written portion of the Bee. Congrats for making it to the national stage Minh!

Be Internet Awesome
Within the past 20 years, the internet has become more accessible than ever and a new generation is learning its fundamentals.  
To teach this new generation the internet fundamentals, Google put together an online curriculum called Be Internet Awesome. It teaches kids the fundamentals of digital citizenship and safety so they can explore the online world with confidence. Learn More.
