Trauma-Informed Schools

Take ten! No, actually take 8 minutes 12 seconds to read about and watch THIS VIDEO about a Nashville,Tennessee school that has taken a comprehensive approach to trauma-informed practices. In the video you will find at least three specific practices that, with a little thought and planning, can be implemented tomorrow.

Try these strategies; they are easy, meaningful and they can bring all new energy and focus to your school!

  • ENCOURAGE STUDENTS’ SELF-REGULATION - Students practice self-regulation and manage their stress and frustration in a de-escalation space in each classroom.

  • BUILD MENTOR / MENTEE RELATIONSHIPS - A brief meeting every morning and afternoon with an adult who is not a child’s teacher gives that student a chance to review their social and emotional goals, building their capacity to be successful.

  • SUPPORT TEACHERS - Sometimes teachers need a minute to take a breath and refocus. A tap-in, tap-out strategy allows them to call in support so they can step out of their room to do just that.

Good luck implementing these ideas! Let us know how it goes!
