September 4, 2020
Hi folks,
We had another excellent week of school as our staff and students have settled into routines and are diving into the first units of study. Cooler temps provided a more pleasant lunch experience for our in-person students, and our RLA students have responded favorably to the structure of consistent class times and synchronous learning. Thank you once again to everyone for their ongoing support as we continue to make this year's school experience a positive one for our kids.

Here's a glance at what lies ahead for both in-person and RLA students:

Virtual Curriculum Night
This year's Curriculum Night will be held on Wednesday, September 9th. Actually, Wednesday afternoon is when we will share a Google site housing video presentations from our staff. Parents can move through their child's schedule watching the presentations created by their child's teachers. The site will be accessible beginning Wednesday afternoon/evening through Friday evening so we encourage families to take some time over those days to view the presentations.

Picture Day
This Thursday, September 10th is Picture Day for NBJH students and staff. In-person students will have their pictures taken during PE/Health classes. RLA students have the option to participate in Picture Day after school on Thursday in the tent outside the district office. See grade-level specific times below in the RLA News section.

Remote Learning Academy (RLA) volunteers needed!
We are looking for a parent liaison for our RLA students and staff. Any interested parents can contact me at [email protected]
We are also looking for two volunteers for each of the Materials Pick-up dates listed below in the RLA section of the update. Volunteers would arrive at 4pm to set up and then assist with the pick-up process at the handicap ramp in the front of school from 4:30-5:30pm. Again, please email Scott if you can help out on any of the following dates (9/16, 10/7, 10/28, 11/18, 12/9).

Curbside pickup and dropoff of NBJH library materials is now available on these same Materials Pick-up days! Check out the RLA News section below for more info.

AM/PM Study Halls
Beginning Tuesday, September 7th we will be offering a morning and afternoon study hall for interested students. Each study hall will meet in our LRC (library). The before school study hall will run from 7:45-8:15am; students will move to their 1st period class at 8:15am. The after school study hall will run from 3:40-4:40pm. Students would then be picked up promptly at 4:40 in the front of school. Each study hall will be capped at 25 students.

PTO Update
The NBJH PTO would like to extend an invitation for you to join our PTO and donate to the ONLY FUNDRAISER for the NBJH PTO -- the Free Will Campaign. PTO funds are used to sponsor programs and events such as Career Day, Dance Assembly, Teacher Grants, the 8th Grade Graduation Party and various Hospitality events. In recent years the PTO helped outfit the NBJH library with all new flexible furniture. Membership also provides access to the PTO Directory app.

In order to fund these programs, we are kindly asking for a $25 per family donationThis is merely a suggested amount; we will accept any amount that you are comfortable with. All students will benefit from the PTO Programs, regardless of the amount of your family’s contribution. You can make your online donation here. Your donation is tax-deductible! If you would like a receipt for your donation, please email Monique Howard at [email protected]. Thank you for your support of the NBJH PTO and the Free Will Fundraiser.

Enjoy the long weekend...
Scott
