Baldwin County School District Graduation Rate Above the State
The Baldwin County School District (BCSD) has announced an 84.8 percent graduation rate for the 2020-2021 school year exceeding the state of Georgia and showing continuous progress in the school district’s goal to see a greater percentage of students graduating from high school. The Baldwin County School District's graduation rate has increased by 19 percentage points since 2014.
“I am very proud to see that our graduation rate continues to outpace the state. The hard work of our students and faculty and staff in partnership with parents and community members is paying off,” stated Superintendent Dr. Noris Price. “The Class of 2021 was faced with unforeseen challenges due to COVID-19, but they met those challenges head-on with the determination to earn their high school diploma during a global pandemic,” Price added.
Georgia’s graduation rate for 2021 is 83.7 percent. Georgia calculates a four-year adjusted cohort graduation rate as required by federal law as follows: The number of students who graduate in four years with a regular high school diploma, divided by the number of students who form the adjusted cohort for the graduating class.

Georgia College Early College
Mr. Claxton’s 7th Grade Life Science Class participated in their first Socratic Seminar of the year. The topic of conversation was the recent California oil spill and our responsibility to continue oil drilling, but to recognize and use safe environmental practices. In a Socratic Seminar activity, students help one another understand the ideas, issues, and values reflected in a text through a group discussion format. Through this type of discussion, students practice how to listen to one another, make meaning, and find common ground while participating in a conversation.

Lakeview Academy Students Are
Out of This World!
Mrs. Whatley's class learned about space as part of their science unit. The content included concentrating mainly on objects in the solar system and technological advances for space exploration. They looked at the planets, learning the characteristics of each and being able to know their order from the sun. In terms of space technology, they looked at tools from telescopes to the Hubble Space Station. Students then completed a group project where each group chose a planet and were tasked with making a commercial to convince people to move to that planet. Students had to use their knowledge gained from the unit to complete the task. Students made skits, songs, jingles, and props to meet the requirements of a commercial.
