Rachel Zenzinger for Colorado Senate District 19
Rachel Zenzinger
Colorado Senate
 November 21, 2017
Thankful to serve you, and grateful for your support

As we approach Thanksgiving, I am reminded of how grateful I am to serve as your Senator for District 19. I believe the opportunity to enact policies and address the concerns and issues of our community is a privilege, and I am extremely thankful to the voters who entrusted these responsibilities to me.

Although the Second Regular Session of the Seventy-first General Assembly won't convene until January, I am preparing for my return to state capitol now. This means I must start crafting legislation, preparing the office, reserving rooms for constituent outreach events, and paying the bills for this newsletter, my website hosting fees, and other related expenses.

My first session back in the legislature was highly productive, and I am looking forward to returning in 2018. Thank you for your ongoing support, and I hope you have a great Thanksgiving holiday!

Legislative Council approves interim committee bills

Last week I had the privilege of filling-in for the Assistant Minority Leader on the Legislative Council Committee. This committee is responsible for approving interim study committees, as well as reviewing the legislation created by these committees.

There are a number of committees that met duirng the interim, including:
Nearly every committee proposed legislation, and we approved all but one bill. To see what the committees proposed, click on the committee link above, then click on the "Committee Documents" button. From there you will see a "Report to Legislative Council" or a list of proposed bills with links.

In my opinion, the most interesting set of proposed bills came from the Opioid Committee. They recommended six bills ranging in scope from the prevention of opioid misuse, to clinical practices for safe opioid prescribing, to harm reduction and criminal penalties.

The committee bills will be introduced during the session and move through the normal bill process.
