Church Building
Open by Appointment Only
Out of love for the Colonial community, the building will be open only to staff or by appointment so we will not answer the door. If you have something to drop off, please leave it in the bin outside the office door and we will regularly move items indoors. Contact Heather to schedule an appointment. Edson, our custodian, is taking extra efforts to disinfect rooms after each use.

In response to the pandemic, we recently changed the locks on our exterior doors so we can better schedule and disinfect the building. This allows us to do contact tracing if needed. If you have a key to the building, hang on to it because we plan to return to the old locking system once it is safe to do so. If you have any questions, contact Heather.

Justice March in Prairie Village Today
Stand Up for Black Lives has organized a march and rally for today (June 10). Gather at 6:00 p.m. at the Prairie Village Community Center/City Hall, 7720 Mission Road and march north on Mission Road to 71st Street. There will be a short rally in Macy's parking lot and then the march will head south back to the community center. Colonial Church's restrooms will be open for marchers during the rally.
If you plan to go, wear masks and observe social distancing as we make a public witness for Christ's inclusivity and justice in our community.
We are planning to display rally signs in our front lawn along Mission  Road. Drop off a sign today outside the office entrance if you would like to be a part of the display. Or you can stop by the back parking lot this morning at 9:00 a.m. when Nick Kromnacker will be there with supplies to make signs. Nick and helpers worked on signs yesterday too. Jim and Kathi Cook will also have our rainbow banner at Macy's but if someone would like to carry it for the walk, contact Kathi.

Summer Worship Series: Recovery
Sometimes you've got to get sick before you can start feeling better.
We all need to recover. We're been trapped in unhealthy living, and this virus has made it clear how sick we are. As individuals, communities, and a world, we need to recover. This summer, God's Spirit will speak healing words in our sermons inspired by the Twelve Step Program. The wisdom of this path may be exactly what we need right now.

Food Drive Concert with "Mr. Stinky Feet"
Join us Sunday, June 14 at 5:00 p.m. on the front lawn of Colonial Church for a free, family concert by Jim "Mr Stinky Feet" Cosgrove. Bring your own blankets or chairs. Please respect social distancing practices by keeping 6-10 feet apart from one another during the event. We will be collecting food donations for Cross-Lines Community Services. Colonial Celebrations on the Road
Colonial Church has a new opportunity to support one another during the pandemic and beyond. Inspired by the birthday and graduation parades that have replaced in-person celebrations these past few months, we created a Colonial Church version called Celebrations on the Road. We will gather in our cars decorated with balloons and banners and provide cheers, honks and more! Moisture Problem in Lower Level
The Council is making progress on a solution to the moisture problem in the lower level of the church that we have been facing for some time. Jim Cook, Chair of the Board of Property Management, working with both structural and environmental engineers, has determined that the drywall in the lower level underneath the offices and Chapel on the south side of the building has moisture in it above normal saturation levels. Jim has recommended and the Council has approved taking the next step, which is to have a contractor remove any of the drywall in that area that has been affected, inspect the walls for structural damage, decontaminate any microbial growth, encapsulate the area to prevent further growth, and fog the area with a microbial solution to reduce/eliminate airborne spores. This expenditure, which will cost approximately $8,500, will be covered by a donor who has designated funds to cover contingencies such as this one.
After that step has been completed, we will need to determine next steps to restore the area for safe usage. No matter what we find, the total cost of the project will exceed the $10,000 threshold and therefore need to be approved by the congregation. The Council will formulate a plan and set a date for a special congregational meeting to discuss what needs to be done and how to finance it. The congregation will receive at least two weeks notice before that meeting is held.

Colonial Women Activities Resume!
All women of Colonial Church are invited to gather with others in casual fellowship opportunities, whether you prefer breakfast, happy hour or discussing a book. Check out the options below. No reservations required. Although we are not able to meet in the way that we are accustomed to, we are developing new ways to continue to support one another.
- Book Group. Friday, June 19, 7:00 p.m., via Zoom. We will discuss "The Stolen Marriage" by Diane Chamberlain.
- Coffee. Monday, July 6, 9:30 a.m., Colonial Church front lawn. Bring your chair and your coffee.
- Blue Moose Tuesday. Tuesday, July 14, 5:30 p.m., Colonial Church front lawn. Bring your own chair, beverage and food as we gather - appropriately distanced - to talk and laugh together.

Your Support Matters
Even though our building is currently closed, our work together matters - to each other and to the community. We are needed more than ever.
In the past few months, together we have:
- Helped stock the Cross-Lines Community Outreach food bank,
- Reached out to each other and the community through Care Partners,
- Provided a pizza party for Sheffield Place moms and some of you have helped by purchasing items on their wish list, and
- Supported Kar Woo's homeless efforts even when we can't serve meals ourselves. Colonial Women provided the funds for the meal for Artists Helping the Homeless in April.
Your pledges help Colonial to do its work. Counters are counting and we are making deposits. You may mail in your pledge checks or any other payments. An easier alternative is to make contributions online. Pastor Aaron's 10th Anniversary
Happy Anniversary to Pastor Aaron, who joined the Colonial community as our senior pastor on June 1, 2010. We will celebrate with him in the fall, possibly in conjunction with Gathering Sunday, when we will present him with a special gift as well as funding for sabbatical and/or continuing education purposes. The letter to the Hebrews was written to show that you can't go back to an earlier stage but must press on eagerly to that which is yet to come. Read Hebrews 11 for June 11. Faith is a journey. Supporting Artists Helping the Homeless
For the past few years, members of Colonial have purchased, prepared and helped serve an evening meal on the fourth Sunday of the month to support the program of Artists Helping the Homeless.
The current social distancing lifestyle makes it necessary to adapt this contribution. Fortunately, the residents of Bodhi House are willing to purchase the ingredients for us and prepare a sack lunch that can be distributed following the current guidelines, though they have mentioned that they miss the home-baked cookies that are included from our kitchens.
We look forward to returning to our former way of contributing to this program soon, but until that time, please support our homeless population with a donation to cover the cost of the meal. Pay through our website by going to https://colonialucc.breezechms.com/give/online

The need for food is greater than ever. Please be generous. Since we can't fill the red wagon at Colonial each week, consider these methods of donating:
- Monetary donations to Cross-Lines Community Services are always welcome. Remember Whitey Ackley is in the Colonial back parking lot on Tuesdays from 12:30-3:30 p.m. to collect food for Cross-Lines, which he then takes to them.
- Harvesters - The Community Food Network is encouraging the community to help by donating money. Every dollar donated helps ensure they have the food and resources on hand to meet any additional demand. It also helps get the food out more effectively and efficiently.
