In 2021 we will be offering more than 15 different courses, ranging from Tai Chi For Healthy Aging And Better Balance and Tai Chi/ Qigong 101 to Wu and Yang Style Forms, 8 Essential Moves, and Tai Chi Equipment Training. Check out the new schedule and course descriptions, and sign up soon!

Please note: we are switching from 7-week to 12-week semesters, which will allow for deeper exploration of subject matter and simplified registration. Pricing will remain the same per class unit as in the shorter semester format.

NEW AND FEATURED CLASSES:

1.TAI CHI FOR HEALTHY AGING AND BETTER BALANCE
Since 2011, beginning with a grant from the Tufts Foundation, BTC has developed a unique, extraordinarily effective program for restoring vitality and improving balance in senior populations and those with balance challenges and increased risk of falls.  Tai Chi For Healthy Aging And Better Balance (tm) uses the Tai Chi principles of Rooting, Centering, Pulsing, and Flow to increase vitality, reduce stress, and improve stability and balance.

Unlike other Tai Chi programs, the BTC program goes beyond the rote repetition of fixed moves, enabling students to truly utilize their lessons in the complex challenges of daily life.  It is rooted in decades of teaching experience, combining the essence of the ancient arts with a modern, scientific understanding of the human body-mind. Open to all.

(For information on the TCHABB research study, see below.)

2.STICKS AND STONES: TAI CHI EQUIPMENT TRAINING
In ancient times, practicioners of Tai Chi used rocks, logs, stone balls, iron weights, as well as staves, swords, spears and other weapons to enhance structure and alignment, increase root and mobility, and expand energy flow and extension.  In this course, we explore both traditional and modern equipment training to strengthen our internal power, rooting, balance, intention, and Qi flow.  Upgrades guaranteed! Open to all levels beyond 102.

3.TAI CHI 301: ADVANCED WORK
For advanced students and instructors with a minimum of 5-10 years in Tai Chi  and other Internal Arts. In keeping with the original Taoist methods, there is no fixed curriculum, but classes will cover such subjects as:  the 16 Major Jings of Tai Chi, Yiquan Standing and Moving Practices, Dan Lian "deep form" Work,  , the relation of Martial and Healing energies, etc.  Class will also include individualized work to enhance each individual's specific path to progress.  Limited to 12 , by permission of Director only.

4.YANG STYLE SHORT FORM, FIRST SECTION
Yang style Tai Chi is the most widely practiced form in the world. It emphasizes rooted, flowing movements; relaxed, yet mindful awareness and intention; and the integration of mind, body, and energy. The class will cover the 20 movements of the First Section of the Yang style form, a 3-5 minute sequence that becomes both a moving meditation and a whole-body exercise routine. Open to students who have completed TC101/102 and one additional class.

TAI CHI FOR HEALTHY AGING AND BETTER BALANCE: TEACHER TRAINING/PROJECT STUDY UPDATE

We have just concluded our first Teacher Training/Certification Program, with 10 TCHABB Instructors finishing an intensive 50-hour program held over the past 8 months. Beginning in January, instructors will conduct multiple trial groups delivering the 12 week, 24-class TCHABB program. Data from these groups will be collected to demonstrate the benefits of the TCHABB program for falls prevention and mitigation, balance improvement, and improved physical and mental well-being.

One of the groups will be held as a regular BTC class, Tai Chi For Healthy Aging and Better Balance 1, taught by Director Don Miller. Course fees are reduced to $155 and will be fully refunded to all students who complete the course and participate in the study.

A separate mailing will go out shortly regarding participation in the study groups. If you know someone age 60+ who would be a good candidate to participate in this program, please forward their contact info to Don at: don.miller@brooklinetaichi.org.
(NOTE: Those who have already asked to participate will receive detailed notification in the next few days.)

FROM THE DIRECTOR
Hua /Transformation

Do not seek to become Powerful.
Seek only to release Fear from the Body-Mind.
Do not chase after Happiness;
Only breathe out your Pain, your Grief, your Loss.
Do not ask for Mastery; Ask only to Shed
that which is unnatural and disharmonious.

Heavy is the Root of Light.
Stillness is the Mother of Movement.
Emptiness, the Source of Ten Thousand Things.

Stand, Release, Breathe, Shed, Un-do;
Let your Tears fall into the Earth beneath your Feet;
Let your Tribulations sink and become your Root.

Where Fear has been dissolved, Laughter blooms.
What you thought was Weakness will become your Strength.
After journeying inward,
                                                 the Spirit rises.
