Hello from Haiti!
August was quite a month!
August was quite a month for Haiti, as well as this little ministry. We put out a financial appeal two times during the month, and you came through for us! We are truly grateful for your prayers and your giving. While the month brought many troubles for Haiti, we are encouraged to know you are there for us as we try hard to meet the needs where we can.
First, it was the medicine...
Early in the month we put out an appeal for medicine. By the grace of God we have been able to pay our clinic staff this year, but we totally ran out of medicine due to a financial shortfall. The staff was discouraged because they could diagnose problems, but they had no way to treat even common illness. We told you about the challenge, and you really responded. We exceeded our fundraising goal and are in a good position to be able to meet this need for months to come.
Then it was the earthquake...
On August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake hit the southwest of Haiti. While most of our work is in the north of the country, which remained unharmed, we do have a strong connection with Pastor Francky Jean-Baptiste in the little village of Lafige in the earthquake zone. This village was hit hard, with many homes having been ruined and the church damaged. Lafige is so remote that it is highly unlikely any of the international aid will reach it. For the second time in the month, we put out another appeal and you responded again! We are working with Pastor Francky to get food and material assistance into the village in the days to come.
You encourage us!
Haiti is a hard place to do ministry, and an even harder place to live. Ordinarily, we would not put out a back-to-back appeal for financial help within a single month, but you extended grace and gave us a lift. As you give, you encourage us to persevere. As you pray for us, we know God will make a way. Once again, we are grateful for all of you. Keep praying for Haiti!
