Greetings!

Christ Church’s in-person Sunday worship protocols have been updated effective this Sunday, May 30 based on recent guidance from the CDC, the State of North Carolina and the Diocese.

We are in a time of transition, and transitions inevitably bring uncertainty and challenges. Every individual and family will have a different comfort level with the changes described here: for example, some who are vaccinated will celebrate the choice to worship without masks, while others will only be comfortable continuing to wear them. Additionally, many of our youngest members are not yet eligible for vaccinations.

As we move toward our sacred new normal, our protocols will continue to change, but our guiding principles continue to be safety, hospitality, and respect. All are welcome in our spiritual home.

Advance Registration Ends: Christ Church will no longer require pre-registration for Sunday worship. For potential contact tracing purposes, you will be asked to sign-in at one of our welcome tables when you arrive. In the spirit of hospitality, all are encouraged to wear a name tag while on-campus.

Masks: While many of our parishioners will choose to continue to wear masks, mask use is now optional for fully-vaccinated persons in most worship settings. Per Diocesan and CDC protocols, we ask that unvaccinated persons wear masks while on campus for indoor worship at this time. Masks are optional for all participants in outdoor worship.

Physical Distancing: Vaccinated persons are not required to practice physical distancing with other known vaccinated persons. While on campus, all are encouraged to respect physical distance, particularly in situations where vaccination status is unknown and to protect children and the medically vulnerable. Use of all available exits from the Nave is encouraged. Hymnals, Bibles, and Books of Common Prayer have returned to the pews.

Music: Congregational singing is permitted in both indoor and outdoor settings; however, when singing indoors, masks are required by the Diocese at this time. All service music going forward will be performed live by choristers, cantors, and instrumentalists.

Communion: During Holy Eucharist, fully-vaccinated clergy will distribute Communion bread at standing stations to anyone who wishes to come forward.

Childcare: Per Diocesan protocols, Christ Church is not yet able to offer childcare during Sunday worship. Families are welcome at all services!

Best Practices for Good Health: Throughout the pandemic, we have been reminded of the importance of good health hygiene: stay home if you’re sick, cover your mouth if you cough or sneeze, and wash your hands carefully and often.

If you are unable to join us for in-person worship, the 8:30 am service will continue to be livestreamed and will be available to watch anytime on both the Christ Church website and app.

We look forward to worshipping with you!
