VBS Ramblings from the Director

Dear Families,

It's that time of year, VBS! In a typical year, we'd be celebrating VBS right now with the kids gathered each evening this week. But let's be honest, 2020 is anything but typical. And I've come to realize there is a lot of potential for personal and communal growth in the midst of tragedy, turmoil, and loneliness. With that in mind, the VBS planning committee spent lots of time discussing how best to keep everyone as safe as possible and still connecting with the Spirit that is always with us.

We teamed up with the Episcopal Diocese of Kansas and Children's ministry leaders to plan a unique VBS just for our kids! It is based on the Way of Love practices created by a team under Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.

Walk the Way of Love

VBS will be virtual.

The kids will grow deeper in their relationship with Jesus, with each other, with their neighbors and with our community. Kids will have activities that include science, art, movement, mindfulness, bible stories, and group activities. On Saturday morning or Sunday evening (you choose) we will meet via Zoom to connect, play games, and show-off our finished activities. At the beginning of VBS kids will get a packet of material that they will use throughout VBS.

When? July 12 - August 9

Who? Preschool - incoming 6th grade

Activities are designed for this age group BUT all ages are welcome to register and join in!

Cost? Free and open to the public!!!

Packet pick-up will be at St. James Episcopal Church on July 12th from 6-7pm. Please bring kids, we will have safe social-distancing activities for them to kick-off VBS!

Your packet will include materials, parent/caregiver guide, and a general sheet with all activities listed and suggested timeline.

Our virtual classroom will be in Google Classroom. You must have a GMAIL account to access. You can sign up for free at www.gmail.com.

Only one person per family needs an account, all the kids can access the same classroom. We will meet weekly virtually, on Saturday morning OR Sunday evening (you pick) for 30 minutes. We will show off our crafts, sing a song, and go over the bible lessons.

IF you do not live in Wichita and can't pick up the packet you can still join the fun. Please email Chelsea after you register and she will send a listing of materials and all how-to instructions. Most material is everyday use and easy to find!
