Dear Valued Stakeholders,

The Belize Tourism Board (BTB) is pleased to inform tourism stakeholders that the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through its innovation laboratory (IDB Lab) has launched a "Beyond Tourism Innovation Challenge" in 15 countries, including Belize. 

The IDB Lab in collaboration with the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) is seeking to identify business models to transform and revitalize the tourism sector. The challenge aims to identify innovations in two categories:

  1. Development of the tourism labor force, which needs to acquire new digital skills for the recovery phase; and,
  2. Environmental sustainability, which includes implementing waste management measures through circular economy models as well as climate-smart agricultural practices.
 
Both private and public sector organizations may apply; projects that are submitted for consideration must utilize cutting edge technology, must be financially viable and sustainable, and must have strong economic, social and environmental impact. The d eadline for application is July 31, 2020.

Selected projects may receive up to US$500,000 in grants and up to US$2 million on loans.
