RESPONSIBLE REOPENING

Cocktails to-go are now legal in the City of Chicago! If you choose to offer cocktails to-go, please make sure you are adhering to the requirements. Click here for more information.

The Lakefront Trail is now open every day from 6:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Trail use is for exercising and commuting - walking, jogging, running, rollerblading, and biking are allowed.

BACP has provided the following clarifications and guidance related to occupancy:

  • In order to determine 25% occupancy:
  • Use occupancy placard and divide by 4
  • OR, calculate square footage of indoor space and then divide by 60.
  • Restaurants should use total square footage to determine 25% occupancy, not just dining room space
  • Business owners may determine how a "room" is defined. The city's intention is that all rooms are fully separate
  • Staff should not be included in the 50 per room or capacity calculations
  • Tables and seats in a room where 50% or more of a wall can be removed via the opening of windows, doors, or panels do not count toward indoor occupancy, provided that dining tables are within 8-ft from such outdoor openings
ECONOMIC RESOURCES

Revised and more borrower-friendly PPP loan forgiveness applications, including a new EZ version requiring fewer calculations and less documentation for eligible borrowers, are now available from the Small Business Administration.

Lenders have to submit loan applications to the SBA by June 30.

The U.S. Chamber’s updated Guide to PPP Forgiveness reflects all of these changes, as well as others made in recent guidance issued by the Department of the Treasury.

The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) will launch the first round of Business Interruption Grants (BIG) by providing $60 million to businesses experiencing losses or business interruption as a result of COVID-19 related closures.

DCEO will make the application for BIG available on Friday, June 26.

Rebuild Distressed Communities is a $25 million economic recovery program to support Illinois businesses that have sustained property damage as a result of civil unrest during protest and demonstrations on or after May 25. The program will specifically help businesses located in DIAs and will prioritize small businesses, women and minority-owned businesses, underinsured or uninsured businesses, businesses that have a high community impact – such as grocery stores – and businesses in communities that have experienced historic disinvestment.

As we begin to reopen as a city, let’s come together to support our neighborhood small businesses. The allocation of these funds will receive an equity lens that considers the disproportionate burden endured during the coronavirus outbreak by local business owners, Black and Latinx business owners, those who are uninsured or underinsured, and those living in communities with a history of disinvestment.
