Summer is just around the corner! CareerSource South Florida is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the Children’s Trust Summer Youth Internship Program. The Summer Youth Internship Program (SYIP) brings together The Children’s Trust, Miami- Dade County, Miami-Dade County Public Schools (M-DCPS), CareerSource South Florida and the Foundation for New Education Initiatives to sponsor paid student internships at a variety of organizations over the summer.

“In effort to enhance the development of career pathways and work experience opportunities for our future workforce, CareerSource South Florida made a financial commitment to support the Summer Youth Internship Program created by the Children’s Trust,” said Rick Beasley, Executive Director, CareerSource South Florida. “Support for this initiative provides students with limited work experience a first step to find opportunities that lead to self-sufficiency and a rewarding career.”

The internship program offers college or high school credits as well as a financial stipend and creates a nurturing environment for students to gain work experience and develop employability skills. Interested students and employers should visit the program website at Miami.GetMyInterns.org.

Upon completion of the online pre-internship course, eligible students will need to submit all required internship documents to their internship teacher champion at their school and then complete the registration on Miami.getmyinterns.org by May 28, 2021 to be eligible to participate in the 2021 Summer Youth Internship Program.

Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, in partnership with The Miami Foundation, other civic partners and elected leaders, launched “Thrive305” – a powerful and inclusive civic engagement initiative for Miami-Dade residents. This project activated people across the County to inform the Mayor’s action plan and priorities, focused on policies, initiatives, and strategies to drive an equitable recovery and create a thriving community.

The initiative is designed to incorporate public input to inform public policy. A countywide survey and community engagement events engaged residents to provide direct input on County government priorities.
Over 25,000 Miami residents took the survey in February that touched on a broad range of topics that impact our communities. The results of this survey, found at Thrive305.org, informed a series of engagement events which focused on deeper, neighborhood-specific issues and solution-oriented workshops. This process will help define the Mayor’s agenda and the Action Plan.

The Health Foundation of South Florida, in partnership with Miami-Dade County and Broward County, today announced a major communications effort encouraging South Florida residents to be vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus. The “I Did It!” campaign, a first-of-its-kind, cross-county effort spotlighting local people and leaders, is designed to reach some of the region’s most vulnerable neighborhoods that have been disproportionately impacted by the pandemic, in primarily Black and Latino communities.

The campaign, which was activated across broadcast television, radio, outdoor, print, digital and social media, was unveiled at a special event on April 21st at Florida Memorial University, which just recently was designated as a vaccination site. The unveiling, where the campaign’s public service announcements in both English and Spanish will be screened, featured remarks by Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, Broward Mayor Steven Geller, Broward County Commissioner Nan Rich and Health Foundation of South Florida President and CEO Loreen Chant.
