Return to Play Update
Current Status as of 8/12/2021

At this time, NYS is recommending that CDC guidance be followed. Current CDC guidance states:

To maximize protection from the Delta variant and prevent possibly spreading it to others, wear a mask indoors in public if you are in an area of substantial or high transmission.

Guidance is changing frequently. For the most up to date information, please visit the websites below.

It is recommended that all clubs have their players complete a COVID waiver for the upcoming season. The NYSW template can be found here.

The new season is almost here, did you plan for next season already? A good preparation and a structured season plan will help to guide a team safely through a season and allows us to develop the players’ and teams’ skills equally. If we coaches follow a structured season and an idea through the season, it will make it easier to plan the practice sessions, and to develop and challenge the players systematically and equally. However, the content for structuring a season requires an age-appropriate approach. The way girls and boys learn depends on the age and the level of their skills. In this newsletter we will give you an idea how to structure a season plan for different age groups.

US Youth Soccer Updates
Playing soccer ties families together as schedules, vacations and family time are coordinated.

Family makes the sport we love even better as we share our trials and special moments with them. Whether it's running through a victory tunnel made of your family after the game or embracing your parents after a hard loss, our families are always there to share the moment.

Take some time this week to kick around the ball or watch a game with your family and make sure to thank your mom, dad and siblings for all the car-rides, orange slices, signs, support, hugs, tears etc.

Thank you, families, for sharing our moments with us and making the sport that we love possible!

It's Youth Soccer Month and every day this month we're giving a soccer ball!

Winners will be selected and contacted at the end of each week.

U.S. Soccer Updates
Introducing the U.S. Soccer Player Status Department
The Player Status Department is responsible for the processing of all registration requests, both professional and amateur, as outlined in the FIFA Regulations on the Status and Transfer of Players. The services provided and processed by Player Status are required to be compliant with FIFA regulations, thus the department is part of the Compliance Department of U.S. Soccer. One of those registration types is International Clearances.

INTERNATIONAL CLEARANCE REGISTRATION PROCESS UPDATE

The international clearance registration forms have been updated to reflect FIFA criteria/guidelines and streamline the process. Failure to adhere to instructions and criteria outlined will result in submission being rejected and/or processing delays. Updates include:
  • Detailed step-by-step instructions on how to submit for successful processing.
  • Explanation of who qualifies to submit under the selected form.
  • Completion criteria and list of required documents /format/file size for processing to occur.

One registration process which has been slightly modified is the age requirement for P10s. Continuing to process P10s for players aged 10 and older would open the Federation, members, leagues and clubs to risk and possibility of fines. Thus, P10s will be processed for qualifying players aged nine (9) and younger to bring the process in compliance with FIFA regulations.

Coach / Parent / Athlete Resources
Sports is the Athletes' Journey, Not Parents
The main message from Amy Oliphant, a former Division 1 player, mom to four young athletes and youth coach: Sports should be the kids’ journey.

The founder of Transcend Mental Training told us during an Ultimate Sports Parent podcast interview that she never pushes her kids to excel or reach for Division 1 sports. Her daughter was a Division 1 swimmer and her other children participate in high-level sports.

While she didn’t pressure her daughter or other children to play Division 1 sports, she did speak positively about her experience and the benefits of making friends and being part of a team.

Along with insisting that the sports experience belongs to the young athletes, Oliphant talks about the importance of focusing on the process, especially when kids face challenges.

How to Survive your Kids Game-Time Injuries
Nothing prepared me for watching my kids get hurt playing sports.

Before they became actual athletes on actual teams, they brought me a daily dose of couch-hopping contusions, bookshelf-scaling scratches, and backyard body damage. I learned to handle it with the tranquility of a Buddhist monk. Cleaning cuts, administering albuterol, applying ice, and even zipping to urgent care induced less anxiety in me than remembering at midnight that I hadn’t packed lunch for the next day’s field trip.

Minor Athlete and Parent SafeSport Training
SafeSport is providing virtual trainings on the 2022 Minor Athlete Abuse Prevention Policies (MAAPP), including changes from the 2019 MAAPP. There are eight (8) different trainings scheduled for May and the Center will offer sessions during the summer.

If you’re an adult athlete, coach, parent, or administrator, learn how they apply to you in free, live, and virtual U.S. Center for Safe Sport MAAPP trainings tailored to your role.
